Steve Bannon is a hell of a lot smarter than Donald Trump (not that that’s a high bar to cross) but when it comes to emotion, he can get fully as wound up and out to lunch as the Orange Orangutan on his worst feces-throwing day. Bannon threw a hissy fit Tuesday night when the Washington Post revealed that he will be surrendering on Thursday morning to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in connection with money he defrauded donors out of stemming from Trump’s mythical wall on the southern border.
The precise details of the state case could not be confirmed Tuesday evening. But people familiar with the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sealed indictment, suggested the prosecution will likely mirror aspects of the federal case in which Bannon was pardoned.
In that indictment, prosecutors alleged that Bannon and several others defrauded contributors to a private, $25 million fundraising effort, called “We Build the Wall,” taking funds that donors were told would support construction of a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border. […]
Bannon, a former top strategist for Trump who was briefly a White House aide, pleaded not guilty to the federal charges in August 2020, after authorities pulled him off a luxury yacht and brought him to court. He was accused of pocketing $1 million in the scheme.
Months later, in the last hours of his presidency, Trump included Bannon on a sweeping clemency list of about 140 people.
Two other men, including disabled veteran Brian Kolfage, pleaded guilty in federal court in connection with the fundraising scheme. A trial involving a third alleged participant, Timothy Shea, ended in a mistrial in June when the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.

People in Steve Bannon’s “immediate circle” have received subpoenas in recent weeks requesting that they testify before a New York state grand jury about the former Trump adviser’s fundraising for a private border wall, CNN reported Friday.
This is no surprise. Oh, well. They can all be martyrs together in the House of Many Doors, I guess. Rudy will be there already, more likely than not. Maybe they can get some kind of a co-ed card game going with Sidney and Jenna — and Alina and Christina and lord knows who else might make it into Club Fed. Or a bowling league, maybe.
As a defendant already convicted and awaiting sentencing for contempt charges he should be considered a flight risk Thursday and immediately remanded into custody at
Rikers Island until his trial date.
