When ABC journalist Rachel Scott finally got to open the NAJB’s interview with the Mango Menace Wednesday after approximately an hour delay, caused, not by malfunctioning equipment as Trump would claim, but by his refusal to take the stage if he was going to be fact checked, she did not waste anymore time with niceties, but launched into a tough line of questioning about the January 6th rioters and his proposal to pardon them…

…of course Trump lied anyway, suggesting that his thugs were peaceful while the recent protests by Palestinian sympathizers were much worse. But things got extra heated when Scott asked the dotard why black people should consider supporting a man who has a history of denigrating and insulting them. It was in response to that led to Trump lying with impunity again, accusing the conference of causing the delay because their equipment wasn’t working when he, in fact, would not take the stage.

“Former President Donald Trump refused to take the stage at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) annual convention in Chicago on Wednesday unless assurances were made that he would not be fact-checked live during his interview.
NABJ President Ken Lemon told Axios that Trump’s team insisted that the interview proceed without real-time fact-checking, threatening that Trump would not participate otherwise. The Q&A, featuring prominent Black journalists, including ABC News’ Rachel Scott and Fox News’ Harris Faulkner, was stalled for over an hour.
At the time, Trump blamed technical and audio issues for the delay, but Lemon claimed that “they were resolved very quickly.”
“The bigger problem was his threat not to take the stage,” Lemon added.
The tense standoff nearly resulted in NABJ leaders explaining to an audience of 2,000 why Trump would not appear. The convention eventually went forward, but without the real-time fact-checking that had been promised.“
As if it weren’t bad enough that Trump threatened to spike the interview if he was not going to be prevented with lying his fat ass off, he promptly took the stage and lied about the cause of the delay knowing Scott and the others could not correct him.
NABJ should have refused to let him take the stage and issued their explanation, but the event had been much publicized and I suppose they thought they had no choice but to carry on. Maybe that was the right decision as the audience was allowed to see Trump for the angry, lying racist he is…

She hit him right between the eyes from the gate go by reading some of Donnie Boy’s greatest hits and then asked why any Black person should vote for him. H was,sweating through the reading(it should have been a,responsive reading where the audience got to say,”Forgive him..Father because he cannot recognizes as the truth”) and beet red even before she asked the question. She did her job. Jim.Acosta of CNN was kicked out of the press room for asking g fact based questions.
This explains why Rachel Scott went after him the way she did. Seems to me she was determined to be his real time fact-checker. Good job Rachel!

After learning about this a little while ago I logged in to write any article about it but you beat me to the punch. Yes, a lot of tough questions were put to Trump (starting with the first one) and there was even some pushback on some of his lies and b.s. but I wondered why there wasn’t more. Even before the event there was a lot of anger within the NABJ for even platforming Trump. Even resignations including from some leaders. Given some time to think it all over I came to agree with Michael Steel’s opinion that Trump being subjected to a series of tough questions actually was a good thing. Steele said it was a good reminder of who and what Trump really is and that it damaged him not only with blacks and other non-whites but with white people too. I suppose I still partially agree but not so much now.
Letting Trump claim the delay was a technical problem so it wasn’t HIS fault didn’t ring true to me at the time given he’s ALWAYS late. Even when appearing at some fundraiser! Now, knowing the real reason AND that in the end they agreed not to do live fact checking, even if they made it clear they were going to be tough with their questions and press him I look back at what I saw in a different light.
They by god SHOULD have stomped on his nuts with that lie about the delay. Flat out said to him ‘No, you spent an hour arguing with us not to be fact checked. Everyone needs to know THAT right now.’ Trump would have exploded of course and if he walked off in a huff so what? I actually don’t think he would have. He went there looking for a fight and he does know his TV and how things “play” with a TV audience. Walking off once he sat down would have, had he been challenged right off the bat with a fact check of that early lie would be seen by everyone as confirmation he’d lied and gotten called out for it. It would have been the same for any other REAL, no holds barred fact checking.
I hope Rolan Martin who was so critical of the event beforehand speaks out and gets attention. I still think on the balance over a half-hour of mostly tough questioning was useful but we got shortchanged. Trump got his way and waiting a couple of days to admit it makes the leadership of the NABJ look pretty bad.
