In a stunning development that is shaking Washington to the core, the Trump White House press team will now be selecting access to the White House. Yes, the White House will in effect choose what kind of coverage it receives. It doesn’t like what it calls “the legacy media” and seems to think that having the White House and the presidency take over the actual message in the media represents a win for the people. This is a classic tyrant move, making the media the bad guys, not the person wholly taking over the nation.
According to Trump Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt:
A group of DC-based journalists, the White House Correspondents’ Association, has long dictated which journalists get to ask questions of the President of the United States. Not anymore. Today, I was proud to announce that we are giving the power back to the people. Moving forward, the ‘White House Press Pool,’ will be determined by the White House Press Team. Legacy outlets who have participated in the press pool for decades will still be allowed to join – but we will also be offering the privilege to well-deserving outlets who have never been allowed to share in this awesome responsibility.
Yes, legacy media will be allowed to “join” but there are only so many seats and the more invitations extended to “well deserving” outlets, the fewer to the more deserving. I don’t care who or what about anything, The New York Times deserves its seat far more than The Gateway Pundit. Of course, we know, this is only about controlling the type of questions they face. Every administration would’ve loved to have made the same move. Every administration hates the coverage they get (Reporters pry and discover things the White House doesn’t want discovered). This one is the first to cry so hard that it stomped away.
Amazing that this is the same crowd that continually crows about censorship. Now they are censoring who has access. It is cute that the Press Secretary references giving the people back the power. Talk about Stockholm Syndrome, whereby the Trump voter feels for the hostage taker. In this case, the press represents the people in that they ask questions of the powerful regarding what is happening behind the scenes. The American people are not “answering the question” they want to hear the White House’s answer. It is 100% opposite world yet again.
If Trump's team handpicks White House correspondents, then all legitimate news orgs should simply not cover their press conferences. That will make them reverse course, since I doubt they will win any new hearts & minds communicating to alt-right propaganda channels & podcasts.

Above is the real solution. If the press conferences only reach the true believers, no one will really change their opinion on much of anything. And to be sure, the White House will want their answers going out to as many people as possible. The WHCA has very few tools at its disposal. No one has a Constitutional right to cover the White House, and it would seem that the White House can control whose questions it answers as is, so it would seem that control of press credentials and access aren’t a big leap. They should simply stop covering the press conferences.

As called the Stockholm Syndrome above, the Trump supporter below has made the press the enemy such that he supports having the White House censor the questions that come in – even if one believes that the Press Corp is corrupt, which it is not across the board, it still only asked questions, and didn’t do anything proactive beyond the questions. Additionally, the guy cannot figure out why Fox News would employ someone who isn’t 100% compliant and supportive of the White House. This says it all regarding how brainwashed some Trump supporters have become. This move is nothing more than the White House hiding from reporters it doesn’t like, something every president would have liked to do, it is just that no president has been less scared to act and less aware of the consequences. But yes, the Fox News correspondent is not happy about this:

Another day, another scary move toward dictatorship, control of the press, demonization of the media, victimization of the White House, and vitiation Civil Rights. Another day, another day. It is just that today shook Washington to the core. Washingtonians breathe access. Once access is shut off, they feel neutered. We ought to feel more for them than the White House on this, to be sure.
