Seriously. How Stupid Can Kevin McCarthy BE?!?

This is nothing short of ridiculous, but why am I surprised? Kevin McCarthy went into this afternoon with two separate internal crises to deal with, and somehow or other he almost magically managed to fuck both of them up at the same time! I guess this is what happens when you’re a power hungry, craven coward with absolutely no spine or moral compass at all.

Today was McCarthy’s chance to clean up the mess from his puppies purely in house. It was a closed door caucus meeting. There were two items on the agenda. The more frivolous, ridiculous one dealt with whether or not to strip the number three ranking member of GOP House leadership, Liz Cheney, of her leadership posts for the obscene sin of voting her conscience, and fulfilling her oath to the constitution to impeach President Donald Trump. And Cheney cruised home by a 145-61 ballot count.

The second, more serious issue was whether or not to strip far right, wingnut, Q-Anon conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments for her previous statements, such as Parkland and Sandy Hook were false flag operations, and espousing that Speaker Pelosi have a couple of bullets parked in her brain pan. And how did he handle it?

He chose the chickenshit way out. He let her rise to give an explanatory statement, after which it is said she received a standing ovation from about half of the room. And then he let it die. There was no secret ballot vote on whether to strip Greene of her committee seats, and I know why. Because if a secret ballot of his caucus chose to leave Liz  Cheney right where she is, an even larger majority would have voted to strip Greene of her posts. And that would piss off Trump. So McCarthy just booted, and chose to do nothing.

Which is why Kevin McCarthy is such a craven, cowardly, spineless piece of shit. Because the number one job of political leadership, whether as Majority or Minority Leader, is to protect your caucus! Your principle job is to shepherd your caucus, protecting them from having to take potentially damaging votes on the floor which could come back to haunt them in the next election cycle.

McCarthy had the chance to deal with Greene in a secret vote, and take the heat when the caucus stripped her of her assignments. And he punted. And as a result, tomorrow, Pelosi will call a House Ethics committee sanction bill to the floor to strip Greene of her postings. And because McCarthy refused to let his caucus deal with it in a secret ballot, tomorrow they will have to take a vote on the floor of the House on the exact same issue, but now the votes will be public record. And those incumbents will have to explain those votes to their constituents. And all because Kevin McCarthy has no nuts.

This is how a political party dies. The Democrat’s may occasionally be disorganized, disheveled, and at war with each other, but they always believe in certain principles. The GOP no longer has any cohesive ideology to bind it together. And this is what you get when it’s every man for himself.

  1. I assume the headline is a rhetorical question. The man is not bright.

I can’t believe I feel a slight trickle of sympathy for any member of the loathsome Cheney family.

    • Mine too…I could see where it was going. The only two shocks are a) how quickly it all came apart and b) how bereft of leadership the GOP has become.

  2. I remember the first time i jumped out of a plane & it was my responsibility to pull my ripcord. I had done 3 previous jumps where the cord was hooked to the plane. The main issue,(other than fear), was after falling 120mph, you get used to it & ur mind wanders. This is a moment where the republican party has found fascism to be very comfortable. They have no ability, or intent to return to any ‘norm’, any more than I could return to the plane. They are pharoahs who know their time of white, rich, minority rule is over. These are the death throes. Their end will rise up to meet them sooner or later. Oops, gotta focus. The ground is rapidly approaching. Now, where is that damn cord?

  3. How stupid? Apparently pretty effing stupid. The only way this makes any sense is if the republicans in the House just decide not to show up for the more public vote. That would show the world Trump really does have possession of Kevin’s jewels.

  4. First time since the Inauguration I’ve been able to read this column. Glad to have you back; please stay!?! But now I’m not allowed to send this comment, though I’ll try anyway.
