To no one’s surprise Lyndsey Graham is doing Trump’s bidding and pushing P.O.S. Kash Patel to take over the FBI.  What he’s saying about the traits an FBI Director should have is a far cry from back in 2017 when Trump fired James Comey.  But hell, we’ve gotten used to Graham blowing off things he once stood for in order to please Trump. Since Trump wants Patel to lead the FBI (into a second or third rate law enforcement agency) then by grab Lindsey is going to do all he can to help Trump get  his wish.

Once again Lindsey Graham is proving just how firmly his lips are attached to Trump backside. To add to the yuck factor (the title pic) a particular part of Trump’s backside in fact. Everyone knows how Graham made himself ‘important’ by being the late Senator John McCain’s sidekick. With that came alliances with others including once upon a time McCain pal and then Senator Joe Biden. And when Trump’s candidacy started looking less like a joke and something to be taken seriously Graham was openly disdainful of Trump. Graham was never ‘anything’ without McCain. However when McCain developed an aggressive brain cancer like any parasite Graham needed a new “host” and Donald Trump became that “host.” Since then Graham has flip-flopped so much we could easily call him ‘Senator Flipper’ as much as ‘Senator Suck-Up.’  But make no mistake, those rows of lamprey eel teeth in Graham’s mouth are firmly attached to Trump!

The Daily Beast has posted an article about how ‘Lamprey Lindsey’ wound up doing some squirming on Meet the Press in his attempt to defend Patel’s impending nomination.  I’m no fan of Kristen Welker who is no better than her predecessor Chuck Todd.  However, like Todd she does sometimes decide to act like a real journalist and one worthy of hosting such a prominent news show.  Welker had a clip of Graham from back in 2017 when Comey got axed where he expressed his thoughts on what should matter when Trump picked someone new. Graham had to be cringing inside when she rolled the clip where he said:

“He has a duty and obligation to pick somebody beyond reproach, outside the political lane,” Graham said at the time. “I think he’ll do that. I hope he’ll do that. I would encourage the president to pick somebody we can all rally around, including those who work in the FBI.”

Well, even the fictional Ted Baxter from the old Mary Tyler Moore show would know what to ask Graham at that point and Welker posed the obvious question: “Senator,” is Kash Patel beyond reproach, and someone that everyone can rally around?”  Graham was according to the linked article visibly uncomfortable. He engaged in plenty of ‘backing and filling’ to justify his ‘support’ for Patel. Graham dismissed his comments from 2017, and raised conservative talking points about the FBI being ‘very biased’, Hunter’s laptop and the Steele Dossier. Basically throw every piece of utter bullshit he could around and hope enough of it stuck with viewers. Enough they wouldn’t notice the mess on his face from his latest Trump ass-kissing.  And it was some serious ass-kissing:

“So the FBI we talked about then has changed,” Graham said on Sunday. “So what do I want in an FBI director now? Somebody that can clean it up, get back to the job of fighting crime. Don’t have your thumb on the political scale. Make sure it’s not used as a political weapon against people that you have a beef with.”

That my friends is Irony and Hypocrisy crashing into each other at the speed of light. Trump wants Patel SPECIFICALLY to use the FBI to persecute (not merely prosecute) people he (Trump, and Patel and other various conservative wingnuts have issues with) people!  But Graham has clout in the Senate. Seniority and as part of the Party in control of the chamber. His position on the Judiciary Committee. And his fellow Senators know damn well that, for the moment at least he’s Trump’s pet Senator.

The question I’ve been asking myself lately is how many times can Graham successfully pull off what he did with Kavanaugh? As in throw a tantrum during a televised confirmation hearing and bully other GOP Senators (on Trump’s behalf) into going along?  Keep in mind there are other nominations that will be bruising fights in addition to Patel. Hegseth is determined to get his own hearing and Trump now seems inclined to stick with him. Tulsi Gabbard of course is going to be a huge fight. And Patel.  How many Hissy-Fits can Graham throw?  I guess we’ll find out next month.
