I would suggest that Elon Musk take the test that he sent out to all of the U.S. government workers, demanding that they “list five things” that they did that day. Or week. Or month, even. It would be interesting to see what he would have to say. What we do know is what Tesla had to say in its earning statement, and boy is that a big owie. The New York Times reported Tuesday that Tesla’s first-quarter revenue was just $409 million, which is a 71% decrease from the $1.4 billion the company made in the first three months of 2024. And the company told investors on the call that the significant decrease in sales is partially due to “changing political sentiment” that “could have a meaningful impact on demand for our products in the near term” — an apparent reference to Musk.

71% down. Now that is a figure that will get your attention. And supposedly after Elon Musk said he was stepping away from DOGE, then the stock began to come back. Wonderful. I hope that Musk will go back to Tesla and his rockets and whatever makes him happy because his participation in our government has been on the same level of disaster as the Titanic and the Hindenburg. So Musk has lost a lot of money and a lot of government workers have lost their jobs, but you’ll be happy to know that the big winner in all of this is just the guy you would have predicted it to be: Vladimir Putin.

A whistleblower recently reported that Musk’s DOGE caused a significant security breach in which Russians had access to Americans’ data.

“DOGE gained access to closely guarded data, including case files, and that could have led directly to a — quote — “significant cybersecurity breach,” PBS reported.

And it happened within 15 minutes of DOGE engineers creating accounts, which suggests that the Russian side of the equation already knew those account credentials.

Andrew Bakaj, Attorney for Daniel Berulis: If the administration is taking the position that having data exfiltrated out of the United States government and potentially into other nation-states, if that’s about efficiency and effectiveness for the nation, it doesn’t make any sense.

Within 15 minutes of DOGE engineers creating accounts, years, names and passwords within internal systems within DOGE, within 15 minutes of the creation of those accounts, somebody or something from Russia tried to log in with all of our credentials, meaning they had the right usernames and right passwords.

Russia is, again, a hostile foreign power.

Isn’t that sobering? And during all this time, while Russia has been enriching itself in so many ways from the Musk/Trump ticket, the American consumer is losing right and left. With some people it’s been direct, the loss of employment or personal liberty, but we’ve all lost some privacy rights. America, as a whole, is that much more diminished less than 100 days in, than we were on Joe Biden’s last day in office. And what about those “trillions of dollars” in savings that Musk promised?

DOGE hit just 7.5% of its “target savings” after embarrassing itself with a “Wall of Receipts” website replete with errors, exaggerations, misunderstandings of data, ignorance, and inflated numbers, including things like “claiming credit for a non-existent contract cancellation.”

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), launched with bold promises to slash £1.56 trillion ($2 trillion) from US federal spending, has drastically underdelivered. By 22 April 2025, Musk admitted DOGE’s projected savings for fiscal year 2026 are just £117 billion ($150 billion), a mere 7.5% of the original goal.

And that’s without calculating the massive costs of the lawsuits, leases ended early, illegal firings, rehiring, reinstatement and back pay, etc. When we consider the immeasurable damage and costs DOGE inflicted on the Trump Slump economy, like the on off cuts to federal grants surrounding preventative fire measures and Trump laying off nearly all of the federal workers who investigate firefighter deaths just as a few examples, the costs are not just dollars.

That damage is irreparable.

To make this all that much more hypocritical, much of the “fraud” found was actually based on investigations that took place under former President Joe Biden.

Now that’s a great gag, you have to admit: Go find out what Uncle Joe was doing to get things squared away and efficient, steal his work, and then pass it off as your own. And buy the next election by writing nice fat checks, right? Because there will be all that saved payroll money from all the people that you canned. Hey, it worked in that Wisconsin judge race. Oh, wait……

That DOGE Dividend was going to be a big winner, too. Those nice fat, $5K checks, all rolling in right before Election Day. Yes, that was going to have the effect of swinging the bat bigly for the GOP. After all, with Musk savings trillions, right and left, there would be plenty of new DOGE Dividend checks where that one came from, right? And now POOF! Up in smoke. Reality sucks, doesn’t it?

We can perhaps derive some satisfaction from the fact that while irreparable damage has been done to the American people, it’s very unlikely that the Tesla boycott will reverse itself. Musk may have put a band aide on things, promising to leave DOGE and get back to work. But he has forevermore trashed his name and his brand. Let’s see what Q2 earnings look like. They could be way down in the toilet alongside, oh let’s say, Trump’s approval ratings? Yes, that far down.

  1. Ironically, I was looking at writing something based on another news site with the same story. Glad you did it. I’m sure it was much better 🙂

  2. Musk did a raid: he got into the govt agencies which were investigating his dubious business practices, especially the ones defrauding the US govt itself, and got rid of all the investigators. Hey presto, no more hassles for Elon. Sure he can go back to work now, mission accomplished.
Trumpland is quite the place, isn’t it?
