What’s the likely answer here? Rudy Giuliani’s telling the truth and he would have been the attorney general of the United States, but somebody talked Donald Trump out of it? Or, this conversation should be filed under Things That Never Happened? This is a hard shot to call. Trump is certainly crazy enough to contemplate putting Giuliani in charge of the Department of Justice. He’s crazy enough to put Sidney Powell in charge of the Department of Justice, for that matter. But being chosen for a post and being confirmed by the Senate are two different things, thank God.

Listen to Rudy rave on his radio show about how he really wanted to be Secretary of State. Oh yes. That would have been a great public relations move, if nothing else, to put Rudy out there as America’s ambassador to the world. Uh, huh.

Listen to the link here, from Rudy’s show on WABC.

This is the bullet we barely dodged, if what Rudy is saying is real.

“And I wanted to be Secretary of State because I wanted to fire them all and bring in a whole new group of people that would put America first.”

Now this I absolutely believe. The State Department was essentially gutted under Rex Tillerson but under Giuliani you would have seen the likes of Sebastian Gorka and Stephen Miller running the show. And make no mistake, Ric Grenell and Jared Kushner would have been right along side them, utterly destroying not only the department but our relations in the world.

We would have been laughed off the world stage with Rudy the Court Jester in charge of that department of our government. Giuliani would have been bad enough but the school of fish he would have brought in with him would have poisoned that political ecosystem probably permanently.

We will never know what conversations Trump had with not only Giuliani but other people as well. If you think that the reported musings of Jared and Ivanka over which one of them should run for president first were wild, I’m willing to bet that those are fairly reasonable aspirations considering what actually went down.

And I can’t wait to see Rudy flip next. Or John Eastman. Right now I’d say it’s even money which one of them will go first.

  1. Conservatives are reaping what they sowed. They should’ve listened to the Lincoln Project, rather than attack it as grifters. And if they’re going to finally break from Trump, they can’t continue to feed fantasy narratives like “it’s all a witch hunt.” Trump is who he has always been. None of it was masked or hidden away. Trump did all the Trump things in plain sight.

They voted that leopard in. It ate their face.

And in this instance, it’s still eating their face.

  3. “But being chosen for a post and being confirmed by the Senate are two different things, thank God.”

Not really, when you have a Senate that’s utterly complacent and willing to give in to your every whim. I mean, considering all the nominations that Trump put before the Senate–both in terms of Cabinet and courts–and how quickly his Republican-led Senate was to confirm pretty much each and every single nominee (even the GOPers who had “concerns” about a nominee yet still managed to vote to confirm . . . .), I’d say, during the Trump years, there was virtually no difference.
Democratic opposition to a GOP-forwarded nomination gets steamrolled when the GOP controls the Senate; GOP opposition to a Democratic-forwarded nomination can last for months on end, even leading to the nominee’s withdrawing from the nomination, when the Democrats control the Senate. (Hell, look what Tuberville’s doing to the military, right now. If a Democrat did the same thing in a GOP-controlled Senate during a GOP-led administration, I can just imagine that McConnell–presumably–would find some arcane “rule” that would lead to that “stubborn” Senator’s removal from the Chamber and the Senator wouldn’t be allowed to return until he’d written a 25-page formal letter of apology.)

    • I wish there was something the Democrats would do to TelliTubbi. It’s hard to believe a Republican can get away with that while the good guys are the majority. I think you’re right, Repubs would change the rules to get a guy out. But Dems?! They never want to upset the cart. The way Repubs play now, more Dems should get a backbone. They should be out destroying them & their nominees. I’m so tired of it.
