Just yesterday Axios and other outlets were reporting that George Santos “would not beg” Donald Trump for a presidential pardon. And if you believed that, you probably will believe that there is a nice island with a dinosaur out there waiting for you to land your plane on it. Santos is nothing if not an utter coward. His entire life is a testament to that. He creates a mess, runs from it, rinse and repeat. So it was not surprising at all when this entreaty to Trump appeared on social media.

Georgy Porgy is terrified to go to prison and well he should be. So of course he’s begging Trump to get him off the hook. But will Trump do so? What’s in it for Trump? Does George have any money stashed away to where he could come up with a few million bucks, enough for a nice golf tournament, let’s say? Or does George merely expect Trump to help him because crooks usually stick together and help one another?

Don’t forget that Santos defrauded a lot of Republicans. That may in fact be the deciding factor, that Santos violated the old rule, “Don’t s*it where you eat,” and defrauded his own kind. At one point, Santos spun a yarn about having produced Spiderman on Broadway, to the interest of Republican donors taking out their checkbooks. Daily Beast:

The steadfast MAGA lover has previously claimed that he won’t be seeking an official pardon. But Santos is known for his… exaggerations.

“The president knows my predicament,” he told The Times on Wednesday. “It’s not like it’s a secret. If the president thinks I’m worthy of any level of clemency that is bestowed upon him, he can go ahead and do it, but for me to seek a pardon is to deny accountability and responsibility.”

Santos promised to own up for his self-proclaimed “unethical” actions when he was caught. But in the last few months, he’s struggled with paying the victims back and turned to the website Cameo to monetize his infamy. He’s sold personalized videos of himself online to fund his own defense.

When prosecutors announced they were pushing for an 87-month sentence, Santos ranted on X to call the government a “cabal of pedophiles” and backtracked on his earlier confessions, suggesting he actually didn’t swindle campaign funds. […]

“Right now, my expectation is I’m going to prison for 87 months,” he told The New York Times Wednesday. “I’m totally resigned.”

“I came into this world alone,” he added bitterly. “I will deal with it alone, and I will go out alone.”

That was a couple of days ago. Today Santos has one last card to play, the Trump card, and he’s desperate and flailing. This would be bad publicity for Trump at a time when he doesn’t need anymore bad publicity. His polls are steadily decreasing every week. Trump did pardon fraudster Michele Fiore in Nevada this week, but she’s more of a local Vegas oddity than anything else. Santos, on the other hand, is a national disgrace. Those are two very different propositions.

It’s a hard shot to call. Trump would love to shock the libs and flex his power. That’s a guarantee. But is it worth it to him to do it for George Santos, when Santos has nothing to offer him in return and a presidential pardon might be more of a liability than a bragging point? Let’s just put it this way, the more time elapses since the sentence and there’s no word from Trump about a pardon, the less likely it becomes.

  1. “…a presidential pardon might be more of a liability than a bragging point…”

Another downside is reminding everybody just how deplorable Santos actually was, as well as his conviction after pleading guilty.

Having a bad week in the polls, Donnie? Sure, remind everybody that George Santos is one of your boys. Good move. /s
