Nothing like another episode of Do As I Say Not As I Do, starring Mike Pence — and costing the yous and mes a whole lotta green. Pence, as you recall, was the head of the coronavirus task force. In that capacity, he advised Americans to not travel over the 2020 holidays, because CDC guidelines were clear to not do so, due to a spike in coronavirus cases — and then he went off to Aspen to ski and took 48 Secret Service agents with him. And this guy wants the number one office in the land. Right. Citizens For Responsibility and Ethics In Washington:

Clearly, Pence did not follow the government’s advice, and in the process put dozens of Secret Service agents at heightened risk of infection.

Pence’s trip extended from December 23rd to January 1st, and reportedly included a Secret Service entourage of at least 48 agents, contributing to both the high cost and the risk of infection. The agents stayed at several different hotels in the Vail area and rented 77 cars for the trip. The charges included more than $270,000 at the Marriott Vail Mountain and more than $80,000 at the Ritz Carlton.

Unfortunately, Pence’s unnecessary pandemic travel wasn’t a first for the Trump administration. Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump did something similar, and traveled to Trump’s Bedminster club during the April 2020 stay at home orders. The Washington Post recently reported that career Secret Service staff suggested an inspector general investigation into the spread of coronavirus within the agency. The idea was rejected by the Trump-appointed IG, who also blocked other investigations that could have reflected badly on the Trump administration.

This also is not the first time Mike Pence stuck taxpayers with huge bills for his travel. Back in 2019, he traveled to Ireland for government business in Dublin, but stayed overnight at Donald Trump’s resort on the other side of the country in Doonbeg. Travel costs for that were more than half a million dollars, and also resulted in the Secret Service spending more than $15,000 at Trump’s resort.

Hey, just spend it like it’s snowflakes at the North Pole, right Mike? Just reach out and grab whatever you need. Build a snowman out of money and send us the bill. Build the pyramids out of money, no sweat. That’s just fine. Whatever you need. We want you to be happy.

Never lose sight of the fact that this is the guy who misappropriated campaign funds to pay his mortgage and buy groceries back when he started out in politics. Pence knew a cash cow when he saw one and he determined at that moment that he would milk it, while everybody else fought over it. This is not Mr. Godfearing we’re talking about, this is Mr. Money Worshipping.

  1. Given how high up Trump’s gelatinous ass he was, I hardly see how this qualifies as news. At best, it’s handy oppo research to hit him with when he tries–and fails–to make a comeback. Richard Milhouse Nixon he is not.

  2. Take note, Politizoomers! The GOP has woken from their 4 year coma and realized that the National Debt is a Serious Thing to Consider. Uncle Joe is in charge and they are already crowing about it. You can really set your watch with these rotten lowlifes.

    • Stealing funds designated for other projects and injecting them into their own universe had slipped a little over those years, BUT they still have created trillion dollar cash outs to deserving one- percenters … then now they whine because funds are being cycled into the well-being of the general population, imagine that, horrors, people that have worked for years to try and feed their kids and keep gas and water working, while most of the money hungry GOP good old boys have not really made anything, worked hard, or produced any products for the masses …

Those people in Congress have access to the best doctors, OR’s, medications and vetted full pay retirement plans … we pay for that, but hey, Congress critters ARE special that way …
