Trump’s former fixer, Michael Cohen, is a font of useful knowledge and insight. Always. Today he was on TV talking about a number of topics Trumpian and he weighed in substantially on a few.

One, there is no way statistically that Trump can win the 2024 nomination, and he knows it. Cohen predicts if Trump would try to do what he did in 2015, “You think Ron DeSantis and the others don’t know how Trump acts on the playground?” No, indeed they do. And they would react in kind.

Then there was a real bombshell. Fast forward to 6:25 (the entire tape is about 10:00) and listen to what Cohen has to say about the $250 Million that Letitia James is suing the Trump Organization for. That’s a “floor” figure, not the ceiling. That casts an entirely different light on the subject.

Cohen has called the Trump shots correctly right down the line. You may recall his first testimony before Congress wherein he predicted that Trump, if defeated, would not leave office. We certainly lived to see the truth of that, unfortunately.

Cohen’s right that Trump is making too much money to declare a run for office, now or at any time in the future. Realistically, Trump has a year and a half before he absolutely, drop dead must declare or bow out. He’ll use that time to make every nickel that he can make, both from contributions to his PAC and from sales of his books, merchandise, you name it.

When everybody from Paul Ryan to Michael Cohen is on the same page regarding Trump running for office — saying he will not — it’s worth sitting up and taking notice. Trump won’t run for office again. For one thing, and this is no small matter, he hated the job. He thought it was going to be largely ceremonial in nature. He’d cut a ribbon here and there, make a speech, send Marine One out for Chinese once in a while and be a big shot. Wrong. It didn’t work out that way.

Although on the other hand, his BFF Vladimir Putin wants him to run. And until that quarter has weighed in, don’t consider that the issue is closed.

  1. I don’t know, the mayhem that would ensue during the ‘pube primaries would be amusing to say the least. If diapers actually won the nomination, I expect the damage done during those primaries would likely result in a landslide victory for the democratic candidate such as hasn’t been seen since the Nixon/McGovern contest. I’ve a feeling the competition for the ‘pube nod would rip diapers a new ass-hole…as well as each other. Definitely a popcorn-worthy event I think.

    • I’d love to see the night before the delegates are supposed to cast their votes for the candidate they were elected to support and see Trump manage to finagle his way to giving a speech in which he THEN announces his Presidential candidacy, even if one of the GOP primary candidates had managed to win a bare majority of the delegates.

It might be worth watching the convention that night for the sheer mayhem it would cause. Would the delegates support the candidate they were pledged to support or would they back Trump and overturn a century of convention precedent?

  2. tRump was able to scam the country for a whole lot of money while in office. We’re only now getting the numbers on some of the fraud he committed and I’m sure he’d love another trip to the trough, if possible. But I’m with Scott, hoping he’s watching results in his orange jumpsuit in his dark, dank cell when the time comes.
