That’s the word from the horse’s mouth. The Washington Post is doing live updates as this story unfolds. Just a short while ago they quoted Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, who warned before Saturday’s strike, “all U.S. bases are within our reach and we will boldly target them.” Tens of thousands of soldiers are stationed across Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States and elsewhere. When the first one of those American troops is dead or the first plane shot down, look for the country to turn on the bloviating buffoon who just overplayed his hand.
It’s already begun. Thomas Massie says that Trump’s action is unconstitutional — not that that ever stopped Trump. You remember the conspiracy theory during the Bush years, that Dubya allegedly said, “The Constitition is just a piece of paper?” It was false then, but it’s true enough now.
The Post is also reportiong that John Thune knew about the strike, as did Mike Johnson, who is all in favor of it.
Johnson later posted on X his support for the move. “The military operations in Iran should serve as a clear reminder to our adversaries and allies that President Trump means what he says. The President gave Iran’s leader every opportunity to make a deal, but Iran refused to commit to a nuclear disarmament agreement,” he wrote Saturday night.
Completely asinine. We had a good deal with Iran during the Obama years. Trump derailed it on purpose, precisely because Obama achieved it. But of course DARVO is the rule of the day with these people, Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offense. What else would you expect Johnson to say?
Trump says that “Israel is much safer now,” according to Axios. I’m sure Netanyahu is delighted that he found a president who would start a war with Iran after looking for one all of these years.
