He may have tried and failed repeatedly to become House Speaker, but Rep. Jim Jordan is attempting a daring measure that throws a possible monkey wrench into special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation of former President Donald Trump as the two criminal cases he filed against Trump continue to move forward, according to Raw Story. While this is a bold move, it’s anyone’s guess whether this will, in fact, impact Smith’s investigation. But one thing is clear: Republicans have made it clear they want everything but the moon.
Writing for Courthouse News, Benjamin Weiss notes that House Republicans warned Smith they may serve him with a legal summons unless he turns over a trove of information related to the investigation.
Jordan (R-Ohio) chairs the House Judiciary Committee, which is demanding that Smith turn over all the documents and communications compiled at his office regarding the probe into Trump. This includes information about the office’s staff such as salaries (which is well, weird) and the organizational structure. Jordan is also demanding details about the special counsel’s office hiring practices.
Jordan wants all the goods, it seems. He’s demanding Smith turn over all documents and communications connected to the search warrant the special counsel received from Trump’s X account. And he’s given Smith until Jan. 4, 2024, and warned that if Smith refuses to do so, the committee may resort to “compulsory process,” which is a fancy way of saying a subpoena may be involved.
“gop lawmakers, looking to defend trump from what they frame as a political ploy to keep him out of the white house, have long cast aspersions on a pair of justice department investigations into the former president,” Weiss writes. “republicans have contended that president biden is ‘weaponizing’ the federal law enfrocement agency to go after his political rivals — a CLAIM that has been rejected by some legal experts.”
Obviously what we have here is a case of dueling investigations and it seems like a case of tit-for-tat. I’m no expert here but this just seems like a mind-boggling case of Republicans throwing up a defense that’s bound to waste time and money. Perhaps it’s another attempt to push Trump’s criminal offenses past the 2024 election.
And we already know what happens if this is the case.
Jordan further upped the ante by telling Smith in a letter that “if the Department of Justice continues stonewalling the investigation, the Committee may be forced to resort compulsory process.”

Of course, Republicans have been lobbing threats like this since last year and Weiss’s report notes they are ready to fire off subpoenas against the special counsel as they step up their investigation.
Perhaps Jordan is trying to brown-nose Trump, whom he still worships, or perhaps Republicans feel vulnerable as their control of the house still is tenuous at best. At the very least, this will add further drag and do more to slow down the cases Smith has brought against the former president over civil rights violations and his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. And of course, the mountain of highly classified documents agents found at Mar-a-Lago.
Where they definitely didn’t belong.

Maybe Smith should subpoena Jordan?
Exactly Acmusa! That was my first thought also.
Or charge him in court for obstruction of justice
Right. And we all know how well Jordan responds to subpoenas.
True, but at least Smith can point to his subpoena and say “You come to mine and I’ll come to yours”. The nation will see what a hypocrite, in giant neon letters, gym bag is.
I don’t see how or why Jim Jordan’s threats to Jack Smith should add further drag and do more to slow down the cases Smith has brought against the former president over civil rights violations and his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. The claims that Jordan & the MAGAS in Congress are making are all bogus & not based on the FACTS.
I think Jack Smith should subpoena Jim Jordan (the BUTTHEAD of the House Beevus & Butthead duo) & other select MAGAS who participated in the Jan 6th Insurrection conspiracy. After all, Jim Jordan ignored the subpoena he was sent by the Jan 6th committee to answer questions about that very event. He is the one with more to loose & to more likely be found guilty of conspiring in INSURRECTION against the American government.
I agree. I think he should be forced to answer questions. But I think the Republicans are going to fall flat on their faces with this silly investigation of Smith.
Beavis is the blonde one. Gaetz is Butt-head.
I never noticed the resemblance before, but it IS uncanny.
Regardless of which is which, both have an anal orifice where there mouth should be. It might look like they have mouths, but all that comes out is shit. They should get out of Congress and make real money with a new K-Street political muckraking consulting firm: Buttface & Buttface
I thought I was the only one who saw the resemblance!
I seem to recall some previous malarkey wherein House RWNJs asked for troves of everything. The answer was: not for an ongoing investigation you don’t, you dolts! End of conversation. Oh, yeah, when Fani Willis took GymJ to the woodshed. Lovely letter she sent him. I’m sure he’d just love another.
Smith should, in his best legal fashion, ask why he should be expected to obey a Congressional subpoena coming from a sitting member of Congress when said sitting member refused to obey a subpoena against him? But, just to twist the legal dagget a bit more, add that he (Smith) would be willing to comply since he has nothing to HIDE from Congress, which would have to be the ONLY reason to ignore a Congressional subpoena. And I think that Smith should hold a press conference in which he reads his response before Jordan gets the letter.
Time to play hardball with these lying nazi TRAITORS! They should be glad bullets aren’t flying their way…that WAS the only solution the last time they tried to take over the world. FACT. Let’s see…in a legal chess match…Smith or gymbag? I’ll stick with Jack.
“Jacket-off” Jim still has delusions of adequacy.
Again, he needs to be reminded of the 3 branches of Govt. He does not have the authority to demand anything of or from the DOJ.
Asking for a friend. Does Gym Jordan have a small appendage? I mean really small? Is that why he tries to strut like some big shot?
