I’ve written elsewhere (Ursula has to be far too busy today to process community submissions) that Pence needs to do more than hang it up because his political future was already toast. He needs to be on the phone with the Cabinet right this second gathering the votes to invoke the provision in the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from power. Impeachment, even if it’s done in joint session via voice votes will take too long because securing the Capitol isn’t going to happen for many hours, if at all before tomorrow. Using the 25th they have the ability to take away Trump’s power/authority RIGHT NOW. The grounds? Inciting a riot AND encouraging its continuance, which is criminal. His mental fitness is clearly in question as he harbors delusions that by encouraging riots believing it will allow him to remain President.
I’ll say this as a white man from mayberry, what the hell do any of us honestly think would have happened if this was a BLM protest? Live rounds. When sedition is actively incited by the president to stop congress, what exactly, is the law gonna do about it?

We know exactly what would have happened because we’ve seen it over and over. Since the DC National Guard had already been activated it would have been deployed immediately. Since there was ample warning of today’s gathering and the statements made by so many planning to attend, LE would have been at the ready to guard the Capitol until the Guard was deployed. And they would have been using tear gas, pepper spray, and shooting live rubber bullets – at people’s HEADS when they could! THAT is what would have happened. But MAGAts are (mostly) white people so they get the kid gloves treatment. As I suspected when it was reported the Pentagon initially refused to allow deployment of the Guard (another reason for DC statehood – Governors can do so on their own) but eventually would relent. The initial refusal was slow-walking things so that many of the TERRORISTS could slip away. How much are you willing to bet that the person who SHOT someone in the Capitol, and others who inflicted injuries on LE & civilians got out of dodge because the Guard hadn’t been deployed immediately and the area wasn’t cordoned off? A perimeter could have been quickly formed and they could have started from the outside in making arrests. They are well-practiced at doing so. But again, these are WHITE people operating under the cover of IOKIYAR
Even the Klan had the basic brain wattage to cover their faces during activities like this. This is basically the sequel to Charlottesville…and NO ONE is any mood to take it laying down. So I fully expect overcompensation for being this humiliated in the first place on the part of LE.
