Now this statistic is what the Democrats need to run with and run with it hard because Donald Trump is going to be crowing about how wonderful everything is the instant he hits office. Democrats need to not only focus on polls like this but they need to keep close tabs on grocery prices and when they don’t lower — and they wont — they need to say, “What’s up, Donald?” Trump owns a disinformation machine. It’s not only Fox News, it’s all of right-wing media and the Democrats only lost this election because they failed to understand that primarily it was not a presidential election. It was a war on truth — and that has not changed. Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Worries about everyday expenses helped return President-elect Donald Trump to the White House. But with his second term quickly approaching, many U.S. adults are skeptical about his ability to bring down costs.

Only about 2 in 10 Americans are “extremely” or “very” confident that Trump will be able to make progress on lowering the cost of groceries, housing or health care this year, according to a survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, while about 2 in 10 are “moderately” confident.

Faith in Trump’s ability to create jobs is a little higher — about 3 in 10 are extremely or very confident the Republican will make progress on this in 2025 — but the poll indicates that despite his sweeping promises about lowering prices, a substantial chunk of his own supporters don’t have high confidence in his ability to quickly alleviate the economic pressures that continue to frustrate many households. […]

Much of the 2024 presidential campaign revolved around prices — whether President Joe Biden, a Democrat, was to blame for inflation and whether Trump could fix it. AP VoteCast, an extensive survey of voters and nonvoters that aims to tell the story behind election results, showed that about 4 in 10 voters in the November election identified the economy and jobs as the most important issue facing the country and that about 6 in 10 of those voters cast their ballot for Trump.

Okay, here’s the paradox: forty percent of these voters were terribly upset about the economy. So what did they do? They 1. blamed it on Joe Biden and 2. figured the convicted felon running from other criminal cases could fix everything. But now, the poll says, they don’t believe it.

Does this sound twisted and illogical? Most emphatically so.

It’s a shame that so much went wrong for the Democrats. Primarily, Joe Biden should have stepped away sooner. But hindsight is always 20/20. And I emphatically disagree with Biden’s assessment that he could have beaten Trump if he’d stayed in the race. Biden simply aged out of the job. We all age differently. Nobody knows when they will become too old for specified tasks. It was out of Joe’s hands on many levels. But had he realized the gravity of the situation sooner, the Democrats could have chosen Harris or Josh Shapiro or who knows who to be the candidate. We would have had an election machine working for far longer than the last ninety days when Kamala Harris admirably picked up the ball and ran with it.

I do not fault her one iota. I think she did masterfully with what she had to work with. But I think she was the wrong candidate because there’s still too much misogyny and racism in this country.

And even more fundamental than the choice of candidate, going forward we HAVE to push back on Trump’s lies and disinformation in real time, and powerfully so. That’s the other issue. If we had met the right-wing machine lie for lie, I seriously believe we would be in a different place. I give kudos to Gavin Newsom. When he got unwarranted criticism for the California wildfires, he fought back in real time with videos. That’s how it’s done. And he upset Republicans by doing that, because Mike Johnson criticized him for it. So you know Newsom hit a nerve.

Food for thought. 2026 is coming up. Time’s a wastin.’

  1. Sure…that’s what they say, but no way they were going to allow a BLACK LADY into power…we’re a country raised on lies. When you do that, then lies are what we are comfortable with. No amount of truth means anything…especially if it makes us think, worry, or make us feel icky. That’s why we put a criminal pampered moronic toddler in power after he destroyed the economy with covid lies. He’s shown us there’s no problem too big to lie about. Who’s having a THE UKRAINE WAR IS OVER party tomorrow? Didn’t he say he’d end it that soon?

      • The Ukrainians are people who stand for something. Half our nation wants to be in a reality TV show called: Let The Confederacy Have A Turn.

  2. In the first place it had nothing to do with Joe Biden stepping aside. Joe made a mistake. Even I was wondering who was making him do what he was doing. And youall sitting around watching and waiting for him to walk to the wrong door make me sick. Vultures have better manners. At least they wait till the victim is dead. Just look at what he has done since that happened. He’s kicked ass. He’s done over a years work since then. Doddering old fool my ass.
