Trump might have talked himself into believing he’s been having a good week. He’s nuts of course, but he lies all the time including to himself. So, it’s easy for him to convince himself Americans are overwhelmingly on his side in the shutdown. Or that all those Generals and Admirals trembled in awe being in his presence at Quantico. But Trump actually pays attention to and understands a couple of things and one of them is polling. All the cross-tabs are too much for him but top line numbers he gets. Yes, he calls his cratering approval fake-news but he knows it’s true. THAT he can deal with. I’m not so sure he’ll be able to handle a new one comparing his approval to Obama’s!
Yep, Marquette University has a first-rate polling operation and they have put out a report comparing Trump’s popularity vs. Obama’s. Let’s just say Trump’s hatred of Obama will reach a new level of intensity. According to Newsweek Obama is kicking Trump’s ass in the minds of Americans.:
The poll found that 42 percent of Americans said they view Trump favorably, while 57 percent said they view him unfavorably, leaving the president with a net favorability -15 points. In the same poll, 57 percent of Americans said they view Obama favorably with 40 percent saying they view him unfavorably, giving him a net favorability of +17.
The linked article goes on to talk about current approval ratings for Presidents going all the way back to Reagan. I can’t believe Americans give Reagan 58% approval (the highest of all in the survey) but that’s another topic entirely. The point is that Trumpty-Dumpty is near the bottom of the list. It notes that Biden who currently stands at 37% is likely still suffering from having withdrawn from the campaign. And over time that might well improve. It damn well should, but that too is another topic entirely.
What matters here is that at some point Trump will learn of this. Reagan, Clinton and even the first Bush beat the pants off him. Even Baby Bush is in positive territory with plus-8. But Obama is who Trumpty will fixate on. Only one point below Reagan! Trump will of course LIE and say it’s bad polling and or fake news, but in the place where his heart should be, he’ll know it’s the truth. People look back at Obama’s Presidency and approve of how he handled it. At the same time they look at HIM and it’s clear by a strong majority people think HE has sucked as President.
I can’t begin to imagine the hatred Trump holds in that diseased lump of brain tissue in his head. Trump is stone cold racist so there’s that of course. Obama is at least as tall and perhaps even taller which bugs the hell out of Trumpty. He’s fit, even athletic (still) and better looking and has a far smarter, more accomplished, and yes, more attractive wife. Who is far more popular than “Melanie.” And Trump, being the kind of guy he is buys into the whole size of hands thing and Obama does in fact have bigger hands. Which to Trumpty means (Brain Bleach alert) … jealousy over the size of something else.
Well, what matters is that as I said, Marquette is considered a mainstream and competent polling operation. They don’t hide their methodology. And let’s face it, other polling from other reputable outlets (even freaking Fox) have Trump at best in the very low forties when it comes to approval ratings. He’ll know Marquette’s numbers on him are accurate. He’ll be pissed of course, but that’s NOT what will drive him batshit insane. It’s that Marquette went and published a comparison between him and OBAMA (and others) that will lead to another epic late night series of rants on Truth Social.
Prediction: Marquette will see any federal grants frozen. And Bondi will open up (or Trump’s orders) investigations. Because a polling operation affiliated with a tony, private university dared to publish poll results that say OBAMA is more popular with Americans than he is. Given what’s going to happen due to his Medicare/Medicaid cuts and Obamacare and other health insurance premiums about to skyrocket part of him will look back at this current comparison as ‘the good old days.’
For now I’m amusing myself with thoughts of Trumpty’s inner circle frantically trying to distract him. Or pleading with ‘Doctor’ Ronny Jackson to make a (White) house call with some very magic pills. (not magic, just plain old Quaaludes) or duct taping oven mitts to his hands so he can’t bang out angry posts on his phone. Alas, the point will come when the Secret Service has to put him into bed. After which he will get up (as soon as their backs are turned) and grab his phone and with the sheet pulled over his head go on a rant.
I keep waiting for the meltdown that will finally send him over the edge and into a straightjacket and a padded room. Will this be it? Having Americans overwhelming view Obama, a BLACK GUY, far more favorably than him? Time will tell.
