Actually, I’ve been kind of disappointed about this one. The trial of Elmer Stuart Rhodes and several other Oath Keepers for charges of Seditious Conspiracy, as well as other juicy charges has been going on for a couple of weeks now. And other than an occasional midday Pacific time update on the day’s testimony on MSNBC, there hasn’t been all that much coverage.
Which is why I never even realised that the prosecution had even its case until tonight. But it must have, because apparently today the defense called world class scumbag Elmer Stuart Rhodes to the stand to testify in his own defense today. And if he had 12 functioning brain cells, he would have stayed at the defense counsel table, and just shut the fuck up!
Everybody knew that Rhodes was going to take the stand in his own defense, but the smart money was that he would take the stand and claim that he honestly believed that he what the constitution referred to as a regulated militia, and that he was simply following the duly elected President’s orders under The Insurrection Act to intervene at the Capitol that day. Fat chance, since Traitor Tot never invoked The Insurrection Act, but his mental state could provide an out.
Instead Rhodes took the stand and shit in his mess kit. Under direct examination Rhodes repeated his steadfast claim that the 2020 election was stolen. But under direct questioning he didn’t try to anchor that claim to any of Trump’s bullshit claims of election chicanery. Oh no, Rhodes knew the election was stolen because several key states had changed their state election laws regarding early and absentee voting due to the pandemic.
Oh, OK, now I get it. An inbred shitheel like Elmer Stuart Rhodes now has the dictatorial authority to decide how individual states run their free and fair elections, just so long as they do so according to Rhodes approves of the changes. Otherwise it’s all bullshit.
Sweet Jesus, I can’t wait for Monday. Because right now Rhodes is still under direct examination from his counsel. And I can’t wait until the prosecution has their chance to ask him exactly what gives a far right, anti government bunch of weekend warriors the right to decide how sovereign states decide how to run their elections.
Once Rhodes finishes making a horses ass of himself in front of the jury, I can’t wait for the prosecution to get their turn to take him over the falls. Rhodes isn’t even trying to claim that the Rasputin Trump misled him, he’s claiming that he used his own mental thought processes to determine that the the United States needed to be overthrown.
It will be interesting to see going forward how many, if any other defendants take the stand and parrot Rhodes’s insanity. My guess is not many. But from his own mouth, Elmer Stuart Rhodes has declared that the constitution be damned, he and he alone decided what the election laws of the United States weres. There’s one judge who gives light sentences, but they’ve only gotten into the serious cases in the last few months, and *they* aren’t getting light sentences.
