Ohhh, I’m already getting a case of the warm-fuzzies over this, and nothing has even happened yet. We’ve barely gotten through the first full week of introductory GOP committee meetings, and already it’s clear that the next 12-14 months of House GOP committee control is going to an unmitigated cluster fuck. And I said 12-14 months because after that, everybody is going to retreat to their corners to concentrate on their own reelections instead.
One day next week, I believe it’s Tuesday, will come the crown introductory jewel of the GOP Houses’ oversight assault. And of course that will be Gyn Bag Jordan’s vaunted House subcommittee on the weaponization of the United States government. This is the one oversight committee that that GOP plans to use to show that the FBI and the DOJ’s original investigation into Trump and Russian interference was capricious, and fundamentally biased and flawed.
It’s a sophomoric circle-jerk for two reasons. First, if Jordan is serious, he’s barking up the wrong tree. He’s right, the US Department of Justice was weaponized against the American people, By his former boss, Donald J Trump, and AG Tubby the Ewok. But Jordan is going to muckrake the FBI and the DOJ for their inherent bias against Trump, and their abuse of power in trying to bring him down. And the second reason is that he’s going to spend the next two years basically walking up the heels of Barr Special Counsel John Durham, but without the manpower or ironclad subpoena power of Durham.
This committee is the secret salvation of Trump and the GOP over the Capitol riot and the stolen documents case. And the crowning glory for the GOP is the expectation that Jordan will be able to garner the same media airtime for his committee hearings that the J6 committee got for theirs. Or at least gavel-to-gavel coverage on FUX News, which is the only media outlet the GOP really cares about.
But not quite so fast, shitheels. On Monday Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin from Illinois announced that he’ll be beginning hearings on the John Durham Special Counsel investigation, due to several recent startling and serious recent allegations reported in the media about Durham’s conduct, and possible ethical lapses that led to multiple resignations from the team. He also requested that the Inspector General of the DOJ open a probe into the allegations surrounding Durham’s conduct.
Sweet Jesus the GOP is a bunch of slobbering morons. They became so ecstatic over finally getting the gift of oversight in the House, and the ability to hold an endless series of kangaroo kourt kommittee hearings in front of the cameras, that they forget that there was another branch of congress out there, and that it is still controlled by Democrats. Who have no intention of taking this shit lying down.
Think about this for a minute. On the one hand, you’re going to have He groped me Coach! Jordan calling forth a series of sacrificial lamb FBI and Intelligence witnesses, and letting his monkey island team jump and screech, howl, and throw shit balls all over the place, counting on FUX News to cover every minute. And counting that if for no other reason than journalistic integrity, the mainstream media will cover at least large portions of the hearings.
And on the other hand, you’re going to have a seasoned warrior like Dick Durbin, who has served in the Senate for 26 years, and who has been through the wars. He’ll call his own witnesses, and quite probably several previously Jordan mauled witnesses to give them a fair hearing in front of the cameras. Imagine former Mueller prosecutor Andrew Weissman tell a national television audience that if it hadn’t been for the DOJ’s OLC opinion that a sitting President can’t be prosecuted, he felt that they could have indicted Trump.
It has to be something hereditary. Every time I think that the GOP can’t be any more stupid, they continue to amaze me. Kevin McCarthy wants nothing more in this world but for January 6th to fall into a black hole. And here he has Machine Gun Marjie calling Ashley Babbitt a martyred patriot killed by a violent cop, and that J6 rioters are having their very civil rights trampled on by the Biden DOJ.
And now Jim Jordan wants to hold hearings that proves that Trump was totally innocent in an election held 6 years ago, and the only one he allegedly won, to show that he was even more innocent of crimes he was never charged with, and a victim of a weaponized FBI and DOJ. And in doing so, let the Senate Democrats reintroduce all of the mainstream evidence that shows that Trump was as guilty as original sin, and only skated because of a DOJ OLC ruling. Ladies and gentlemen, you can’t make this shit up!
Durham was there to NOT find any evidence against the former guy, but he couldn’t find anything else.

PR stunt pure & simple. They depend on the apathy of comfortable middle class Americans more concerned over phones & reality TV. They already have a cult of 28% that isn’t going anywhere unless covid or old age takes them out. The earth is tettering on the brink of a disaster that will only get worse and we citizens voted in a death cult to finish us off by wasting another two years we don’t have. When ice the size of Manhatten is breaking off Antarctica we can’t really afford to keep this up.
Nor can we afford to waste time while our brave ally Ukraine fights on our behalf to defeat the evil neo-Imperialist narcissist in the Kremlin, Trumpler’s hero Putin the Deranged. The GOP death cult will try to block aid to Zelensky, just as their orange ex-president did. They’re too stupid to understand the geopolitical issues at stake, or they don’t give a shit.

AGAt Republicans, but also anyone with two brain cells who still thinks conservatism exists, would recognize a legitimate comparison if it came to the door ans showed ID. Legitimae comparisons, like facts, are not convincing, because anyone with aworld view that doesn’t include them already is incapable of accepting them.
That’s not to say we shouldn’t make them – but we need to adjust our expectations as to the difference they will make, which is virtually zero.
