I guess that this must be what watching a train wreck would be like if you had an unlimited vision of the rest of the track and all the activities taking place 360 degrees around the train and the track. I just finished listening to Ron Filipkowski’s Uncovered show. Filipkowski says that Melania has a lot invested in this movie doing well because she’s devoted this past year to it.
I can’t believe that she’s naive enough to not see this as a bribe by Jeff Bezos, when the rest of the world is calling the shot that way. Maybe she’s as narcissistic as her husband and believes that she’s so wonderful that all that money she pocketed was legitimately earned. (She got paid as much as Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio do for a feature.) Plus, we’re told that there is a docuseries in the offing. I assumed that would drop based upon the success of Melania: The Motion Picture but maybe it’s going to come to TV sets regardless. Meanwhile, this is how well things are going in Boston.

They showed Melania on my flight this weekend and three people walked out.

Tomorrow is the premiere at the Kennedy Center and Friday is the world premiere. Everybody is watching this cultural event like a hawk and it’s going to be like an election day, nobody really knows anything until the votes start coming in. Can Melania deliver? Can she put asses in theater seats, as Darryl Zanuck used to inquire of would be stars? Or will she be the next Anna Sten? (An actress that Sam Goldwyn thought would be the next Garbo and she flopped miserably.)
Plano, Texas has sold a lot of tickets. That’s the 9th largest city in Texas, so maybe that’s an indicator of something. Los Angeles reports some sales at the theater in Century City. I suppose the question there is how many people stay in their seats until the end or leave and go to Harry’s Bar?
Harry Enten, who crunches numbers for CNN, predicts that there’s over a 60% chance that Melania will tank on Rotten Tomatoes.
We will only know the truth this weekend. But if Melania really has her sights set on this level of a movie career and being paid like Pitt and DiCaprio every year, I would say it’s time for a reality check.
And there is one factor that is alarming: there have been no critics’ premieres. If the film could stand on its own, it’s reasonable to bet that critics would have been invited to view the movie. Critical acclaim is one way to get the proverbial asses in the seats. The fact that there has been a critical blackout of this movie may tell you everything you need to know. Just two more days of suspense.

That picture cracked me up! And the comment by Larry Tacker was hilarious! Thanks for a much needed laugh.
I confess, even I didn’t think I’d be writing these headlines. But lets see how it performs this weekend. That’s the acid test.
You know what? For 10k in cash I’ll go see it. Provided they also pay for a ride from Uber to a theater in the Raleigh area that plans to show it. Five thousand at the ticket window and five thousand from the person at the door to the actual theater itself. I will have my phone with me and the ear buds can be wrapped in band aids – the flesh color will easily make them blend into my skin once the theater goes dark. So I won’t hear a bit of the thing. As for not seeing anything and wanting to stab my eyes out with my keys, I still have my eclipse viewing glasses from when I drove down to Columbia, SC to experience a total eclipse. Strong enough to block out sunlight I’m sure they can block out the light from a movie screen. To allay suspicions on THAT I could pull a ballcap down low and sit well off to the side next to a wall. But PAYING people is the only way Trumpty is going to get even half full theaters. I don’t think they want images on social media of busloads of homeless people rounded up at encampments who’d go with the promise of a hot meal and a cheap hotel room for the night. Nope, paying normal looking folks and paying them serious money is the only way they will be able to get enough butts in seats this weekend to keep it from being a total disaster!
I’ve heard that the GOP is buying out screenings so things don’t look so bad for Trump and Melania. My issue is a reviewer. When the first critic files the first review, that’s what I’m waiting to see.
She did better in the UK.
