“Normal Versus Crazy” Is Our Problem, Per Hucky Boo Boo. She’s Absolutely Right

Even the broken clock is right twice a day and Sarah Huckabee aka Hucky Boo Boo Sanders, is spot on today. The video you’re about to see was just released by Meidas Touch and it features Sanders pontificating on the sad state of American society today. The essence of the problem, you see, is that we have a culture war and one side is normal and the other side is quite mad.

And that is absolutely the state of affairs in this country as I see it as well. So take a look at what Hucky Boo Boo would have you believe is “normal.” Because if this is normal, I’ll take my Thorazine shot now please, Doctor, so I can enjoy the chirping birds as I sit on the Happy Dale lawn and enjoy life. The last time I saw a society where “normal” was this bizarre was in that Twilight Zone episode with Donna Douglas called “Eye Of The Beholder” and we’ll get to that, too. (And in all truth, Hucky Boo Boo fits right in as one of the ruling class in that society, for sure. She’s got the perfect looks.)

Hucky Boo Boo and the Rethugs are the normal ones and you and I are the crazies. Which brought to mind this opus. This is just the three-minute trailer but you can get the whole episode on You Tube. Amazing how this concept of what’s what not only applies to beauty but to sanity — in our day and age.  I have always known that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I never knew that sanity was. But if you think about it, it makes a hell of a lot of sense. In Nazi Germany, concentration camps were “normal.” And Adolf Hitler was “sane” — when he was in power. Think about that for a moment while you watch this.

Look at what Donald Trump has “normalized” in the seven years he’s been at the forefront of the Republican party. We just saw, a few weeks ago, one GOP candidate vying to be put on the presidential ticket by the party, call another one, “scum.” That is normal nowadays. It’s also normal for them to refer to one another as “Meatball” “Birdbrain” “Sloppy Fat” and other epithets.

And this is normal, too. This is an exchange between a member of Team Trump and Team DeSantis.

What’s that you say? This is combative and vulgar, and thoroughly unacceptable during a primary, after which the party must rally behind their chosen candidate, as one? Noooooo, Mr. Bill, you’ve got it all wrong. THIS is NORMAL! Don’t you remember, I’ve been telling you for many years now that It’s Okay If You’re A Republican. This is merely an extension of that. If Bernie had sent this to Joe, or anything like this, it would have been 24/7 coverage on Fox News. The sanctimony would have flowed like wine at a Lucellian banquet. Republicans would be flocking to ERs with sprained hands from clutching their pearls. OMG, what a scene it would have been.

But when they do it, it’s normal. Let’s review, friends, shall we? We want to make sure we are up to date and informed.

It’s Normal to:

1. Vape and engage in overt foreplay (what was called “heavy petting” once) in a theater seat — and then copy an attitude and lie about being on the performing arts board when asked to stop;
2. It’s normal to flip off the usher who throws you out because you wouldn’t stop;
3. It’s normal to show pornographic photos in Congress;
4. It’s normal for a U.S. senator to say to the head of one of the country’s biggest unions, “Stand your butt up,” and proceed to do the same — on the floor of the Senate. We’re not talking about a barroom, here;
5. It’s normal to have a presidential candidate with criminal and civil trials going in four different judicial districts simultaneously;
6. It’s normal that the circumstances of Number 5 actually swell the candidate’s support base — or so the polls tell us;
7. It’s normal that a 77-year-old who doesn’t know WWII from a potential WWIII and thinks Barack Obama is still president is considered lucid while an 81-year-old man who has a stellar track record as the incumbent is considered senile.

We could go on all night. This is the New Normal or more accurately New Abnormal.

So what is normal, friends? Is it truly relative, as most things are? Or are there some moral absolutes? Because in all cultures and religions, if you do a cursory study, there is some form of the Golden Rule. It is considered a good thing everywhere and at all points in history to treat others with dignity and respect if, in fact, that is how you would wish them to treat you. And who wants to be treated in any other way?

But this iteration of the GOP, who comedically call themselves “Christians” has never heard of the Golden Rule. They hate everybody who isn’t a carbon copy cookie cutter version of themselves.

If decency and truth is now a matter of opinion, only, and only exists in the eye of the beholder, then once again friends, we have indeed entered the Twilight Zone. And we’ve been living here the past seven years.
