Donald Trump just never seems to learn and his constant attacks on court staff in his civil fraud trial in New York are going to cost him his freedom if he doesn’t stop according to former GOP congressman David Jolly.
Trump and his sons Eric and Don Jr. continue to maintain their innocence in the sprawling $250 million lawsuit where they are accused of inflating Trump’s own net worth and the value of his assets by billions of dollars over more than a decade, beginning in 2011, Newsweek reports.
Trump, of course, claims prosecutors are politically motivated and trying to ruin his 2024 presidential campaign.
Throughout the trial, Trump has fought against a gag order put in place by Judge Arthur Engoron to keep him from publicly directing his ire at court staff members. That was hampered on November 16 by an appeals court that issued a temporary pause on the order citing “constitutional and statutory rights at issue.” And of course, Trump has taken advantage of the pause by posting a Thanksgiving message on Truth Social attacking people involved with the case.
He especially had words for New York Attorney Letitia James, who’s prosecuting the case, describing her as “racist and incompetent,” and Judge Engoron, whom he labeled a “psycho.” Engoron’s clerk is “politically biased and corrupt.”
Unsurprising, after Trump turned blabbermouth again, the level of threats made against Engoron and his staff has jumped dramatically, reports say.
Those threats were the topic of discussion during Jolly’s appearance on MSNBC Saturday. Jolly, a political analyst for the network, discussed Trump’s seemingly never-ending continued attempts to belittle those who are bringing the civil fraud trial against him and suggested it may not be long before Trump loses his personal liberties.
“in past years, his holiday messages have attacked socialists and democrats and the deep state and this was an unhinged screed against prosecutors and judges and it gives you a little bit in terms of his state of mind,” jolly said. “we continue to steps closer and closer to donald trump possibly losing his own liberty, either because of pretrial behaviors and attacks on prosecutors and judges or a conviction.”
Jolly is a former GOP representative for Florida’s 13th Congressional District. He has since left the Republican Party and has become one of Trump’s most ardent opponents.
He also suggested that the more often Trump spews vitriol, the better it looks for President Joe Biden’s chances of reelection, even though polls continue to show Trump in the lead.
“I don’t think he has a lead over biden like the polls show because when people see his behavior, they are reminded that he is unstable, unhinged man, who should not be returning to the white house and that is enough to protect joe biden’s lead going into a matchup,” jolly, a former Congressman said.
I wish I were that confident but I’m not. Republicans continue to support a man who quotes Hitler, who talks in crayon words, and bullies people when they go against him. A man who called Hillary Clinton a “nasty woman” and while she has her faults, she was far better suited for the job and won the popular vote. Yet no matter what he does polls like FiveThirtyEight and Morning Consultant consistently show him as leading over Biden.
I guess I’ll just never understand Republicans.
