I really hope Trump gets wind of this. He’ll want to order the Army Corps of Engineers to rig explosives to blast California away from the continental U.S. and declare it another country. On the other hand he’s messed up the economy so bad he can’t afford to lose California which in and of itself has an economy larger than all but a half-dozen countries. Still, Newsom’s parody account hasn’t just roasted Donald and Melania, they burnt them worse than one of Trump’s steaks he eats for dinner!

There’s a delightfully funny article from the Atlanta Black Star that’s a feast of tweets and comments.   It describes how a parody account California Gov. Gavin Newsom had set up to troll Trumpty had a field day with his bigly visit to the United Kingdom this week. I’ll admit I was mostly looking to see if Trump had a better tailor/stylist for his White Tie outfit for the State Dinner. Remember how buffoonish he looked with Queen Elizabeth last time. At least his waistcoat didn’t extend four or five inches below the front of his tailcoat. Still didn’t get the sleeve length quite right but that too was way better. However it looks like they kept photographers at a distance this time. I can’t be sure but it looks like Trumpty’s gut was stretching the buttons and causing creases.

Well, that turns out not to have been a big deal this time. On the other hand the Trumps slept in separate rooms during their visit. Melania just can’t stand (literally) the smell of him in an enclosed room?  That’s been talked about before. However, the point today is Melania’s fashion choices and faux pas got noticed.  One look in particular. She showed (cough cough) ‘solidarity’ with her P.O.S. hubby by wearing a plum colored outfit that matched the color of Trumpty’s tie for a ‘casual’ get together with King Charles and (Queen) Camilla.  The dress itself was fine, but the HAT was what no one could ignore.

Actually, that hat made a prior appearance. She’s wearing it in photos of her and The Donald walking away from Marine One escorted by the Prince and Princess of Wales who greeted the Trump’s on their arrival.  She was wearing a similar colored pantsuit then but it’s the same freaking hat. And yes, it looks like a freaking LAMP SHADE. Moreover, there were times when she sure as hell seemed to want to use it as such!  For all the world to see it appeared she was humiliated to have to be seen with Donald, and especially in that setting.

It wasn’t at all the kind of thing she had dreamed of once upon a time. It’s easy to imagine the kinds of thoughts that ran through her head: ‘Thees ees no vaught I imaged once upon time’, or ‘I just vaunt hide away teel thees over and can go home‘ and so on. There’s a picture of Charles, Camilla, Donald and Melania on the porch and while she’s looking ahead that hat still seems like she chose it with the intent of it being a lamp shade that could somehow hide her.  And the title pic with her literally looking down, hiding under than ridiculous hat speaks a lot more than a thousand words. Oh, wearing it inside when Camila had removed her own hat was a bigly breach of protocol.

Anyway sometimes the jokes write themselves. Hell, given various images of Melania wearing her lamp shade don’t much require a punchline comment.  Still, it was too good an opportunity for people to pass up. I don’t have the ability to embed a tweet into this but the the linked article includes both some commentary and the all-caps caption Newsom’s tweet contained:

The large hat covered Mrs. Trump’s face, and in photographs taken inside the castle, some observers thought she looked like she was sleeping, a coat rack, or perhaps a lampshade. Folks on X could not get enough after Newsom’s parody account posted one picture of the Trumps standing on either side of the King and Queen.

Trump had a lost expression on his face, and his wife looked like her hat and outfit were in the room without her. Red circles were also drawn around their heads in the pic. The post was captioned, “OUT OF 350 MILLION AMERICANS, WE SEND THEM DUMBO AND LAMPSHADE?!”

Trump’s people won’t dare tell him what Newsom said but he’ll find out. If only there was a journalist ready to retire who would ask him (with cameras running) ‘How do you feel about Gov. Newsom calling you and Melania Dumbo and Lampshade?” As I said, the tweet from Newsom’s parody account kicked off a it’s share of comments mocking Trump. I’m certain there’s a ton more than are covered in the linked article.  By now it’s possible Dumbo and Lampshade has gone viral on Xitter which as of this week poses an interesting question. Given his desire to censor/stamp out mockery of him will he order Xitter to be shut down?

I don’t believe Trump could shut down X/Twitter any more than he could get away with ordering the FCC to pull network’s broadcast licenses if they don’t stop criticizing or making fun of him. I’d love for him to try, if only to see what Musk would do.  I believe the thought will run through the few remaining brain cells Trump has. Once he learns of this he won’t be able to resist reading through responses and some will stand out as much as Newsom’s orginial “OUT OF 350 MILLION AMERICANS, WE SEND THEM DUMBO AND LAMPSHADE?!” post. One response included a wickedly mean poem:

“MELANIA STUNS IN HER FLOOR LAMP OUTFIT. Donald Trump will declare like a Champ, His third wife is a Wh*re and a Tramp ..but she proves she’s Loyal ..and looks like a Royal When she stands by turned off like a lamp.”

Ouch. Well, other posts were simple mockery, like the guy who wrote nothing in response but simply added a picture of the post of a nice floor lamp you’d seen in a living room.  Still, lots of people decided to have themselves some fun a Melania’s expense.  Mockery she so richly deserves.  Trumpty of course doesn’t care about Trophy Wife #3 being ridiculed. If HE wasn’t included in the picture in question (and others) poking fun at The First Lady Lampshade he’d be laughing his fat ass off!

Well, it’s Friday and as we all knew it would be since Trumpty is after all President we could all use something to put a smile on our face as we head into a weekend of ‘god knows what he’ll do next’ from President ‘Wife Wore A Lampshade Rather Than Be Seen In Windsor Palace With Him.’  I promise, it you go to the linked article (hell, bookmark it) you’ll have at least a few minutes of fun.

  1. I guess it’s tougher being a rich whore than I imagined. I was never locked in a space, tethered by law and position, to a woman that smelled like shit/hairspray/burnt cat hair. My sympathy Natasha.

  2. Trump can’t order the FCC to pull a network’s FCC broadcast license for the simple fact that networks don’t hold broadcast licenses. Those are held by the affiliate stations that, well, broadcast.

    • Would’ve been nice if ABC had pointed that out instead of giving in and dumping Kimmel.
Of course, as the original story about ABC’s actions pointed out, the reich-wingers who own the various ABC affiliates took offense on their own and refused to continue airing Kimmel’s show prior to the ABC decision AND the FCC *does* have authority to block any potential media mergers or acquisitions that a network might choose to do.
If the affiliates’ owners refuse to air network programming (or time-shift it), the network has little recourse. Not sure if they still exist but, at one time, CBS, NBC and ABC each did own their own channel–mostly in NYC and/or LA–which were considered the networks’ “flagship” station; these were the only stations which couldn’t “rearrange” the network’s programming. And, again, I’m not sure if it’s of any real consideration now, but a couple of decades ago, if you wanted a cable home satellite system and you wanted network programming and you lived in an area already serviced by an affiliate but you knew the local affiliate tended to do a lot of “interrupting” network shows for local sports coverage or religious programming or whatever and you wanted another network affiliate (or, better, the network’s direct feed from the “flagship” station), you had to petition the FCC for an exemption which would usually be denied because the local affiliate objected. (Typically, the only approvals would happen if you lived outside an approximate 50-mile radius.)

    • If anything, Nexstar, owner of the “independent” ABC affiliates, who decided FOR their affiliates that Kimmel’s comments, which were more a statement of fact than inflammatory, shouldn’t and wouldn’t be carried on those stations, committed prior restraint, a form of censorship, and I hope that Jimmy confers with lawyers about suing them for their action (Side note: Nexstar bought WPIX/Channel 11 in New York, which had begun broadcasting in 1948, a few years ago — my 10 PM viewing habit is now changed)

  3. Denis, I love your articles, but- once again you said, “California which in and of itself has an economy larger than all but a half-dozen countries.” Wrong. We have the 4th largest world economy & 10% of the population of the USA.
