Some of us have had the good fortune of driving around South Georgia and enjoying the beautiful old magnolias, red dirt roads, big pines, and the smell of vidalia onions in and around Valdosta. It is normally a lovely place but it was torn to its roots by Hurricane Helene. The Cat-4 hurricane moved north so fast that it never had time to dissipate as it crossed the Georgia border. Valdosta’s stop lights don’t work, people are displaced, school is postponed, trees down… It will take a year to really come back together. And yet, before the roads dried, Donald Trump and his campaign landed with “relief supplies.” He promptly gave a stump speech in order to more thoroughly “get in the way” of immediate relief efforts.

It is Donald Trump’s choice to provide supplies – no doubt about that. But it must have not occurred to him to simply send the supplies and leave the former president, his staff, and his substantial security footprint at home. No, he barnstormed into the town where even the red-headed locals had a tough time excusing it. According to Rawstory:

CBS News reporter Scott MacFarlane triggered a wave of fury on X Monday afternoon as he detailed the impact Hurricane Helene had on Valdosta before Trump’s arrival.

Well, that did it. The reporting set off a wave of anger on “X” – one that seems to be ramping up, not subsiding. There was the obvious point that the city didn’t need the distraction and any aid provided was offset by logistics:

“Authorities there will have to clear roads for his photo opps instead of doing essential service work for the residents and businesses there,” the group wrote on X. “This is all Trump knows – using the tragedy of others to prop himself up.”

This goes well beyond poor taste and runs straight up against “dangerous” – what if someone had a heart attack while clearing debris? Would that person be able to get around town? Could the ambulance even get there in time?

We can’t know but Trump should have known and thought about it ahead of time. I have continuously pounded on the obvious truth that not only is Trump devolving onstage in front of neutral eyes, but his campaign staff is either entirely incompetent or no use at all as Trump follows his every inclination.

More anger:

Well, Trump being Trump. But this was a terrible call and where were the people in his campaign to say: “This is Georgia, where it is close. If you upset some of your biggest supporters out here in the rural areas, this could actually lose you the election… ”

Because that is exactly what this campaign stop might do – lose the election. There is nothing to be gained. Sometimes it takes a real leader to know when it’s best to simply stay out of the way. What does that say?

  1. SO…you’re pissed off citizens of Georgia? Then DO something about it. You need to get mad about having a soulless child killing nazi use you like a sex doll. VOTE that sob into the prison system…oh and when the jury gets picked for his election interference…CONVICT HIM! That’s one way to stop his stunts.

  2. Trump claimed HE was taking aid and supplies to hurricane victims! Then, the cameras were turned on in GA and Trump stood in front of Franklin Graham, whose charitable organization did bring aid and supplies, and claimed “WE brought all this!” Bullshit!! The only thing Trump took to GA was his mass ego! 💩💩💩

    • Can you link that? The only reporting that I saw was that he did bring supplies in. If he didn’t even do that it’s even worse and I will update. But I need a link please.

  3. Jason, it took me a lot of reading, and I admit to extrapolating, and getting through some sanewashing about Trump’s comments that HE brought aid. As usual, Newweek and others were simply writing what he said rather than checking. Yes, apparently there is a GoFund Me page with Trump’s name on it and Kelly Loeffler gave money in his name, but the idea that Trump put any money in it is ridiculous and certainly goes unreported. A very long NYT article talked about Trump’s horrendous disaster responses as President, and all of his Puerto Rico hurricane lies.

In the VERY LAST paragraph, we see the same non-reporting reporting…he SAID he brought gifts, but all of it was from Graham’s group:

“In his remarks, the former president repeatedly said that he had come bearing gifts to help the disaster response: semitrailer trucks filled with relief supplies and a tanker of gas, distributed by the evangelical Christian humanitarian aid group Samaritan’s Purse.”

  4. Trump is nothing, the GOP has him so THEY HAVE NOTHING AS WELL, I hope that Trump’s interference with ALL those people trying to get locals back to sane meals and clean water is fully documented and inserted in his next summons/arrest warrant … This shit head move of his IS, WAS, and STILL will affect LIFE-SAVING processes, his photo ops are weapons against human dignity, common sense and possibly could put him in prison BEFORE THE VOTE … How many more innocent citizens/children need to die from missed extraction attempts, because, well, the massively stupid dick head, wants to be in that spotlight at ANY cost to ANY one on planet earth … !
