This is going to blow sky high and I suspect that that is precisely what Nancy Mace has in mind. She needs the free publicity so she’s targeted George Stephanopoulos. Last Sunday the news show host asked her how, as a rape victim, she could endorse Donald Trump. That was characterized by Mace as “rape shaming” and then the story builds from there.  Mace reports she was forced to call the police after she received a call from somebody who said he planned to rape and then murder her and murder members of her family. She links this incident directly to Stephanopoulos and blames him for it occurring.

She did mock and shame E. Jean Carroll on that show. This is vintage Nancy Mace and this is a publicity stunt. Mace has seen a 100% turnover in her staff since November 1, 2023 due to the toxic workplace environment that she has created. She’s a terrible boss.

Eight employees turned in their resignations after Mace fired her former chief of staff Dan Hanlon, reported The Daily Beast. Hanlon is now running against her in the 2024 primary race for South Carolina’s 1st congressional district.

June 11 is the South Carolina State Primary and it’s now March and so Mace is doing whatever she can to counterbalance the dreadful press against her. That’s what this Stephanopolous demonization is about. Let me be clear: I’m not disputing that some unhinged person called Mace and threatened her. We see a great deal of that nowadays. That’s due to Mace’s hero, Donald Trump, empowering crazies to act crazy, the way he does, without fear of reprisal.

What I’m disputing is this causal connection she’s making between George Stephanopoulos and a fairly innocent question, being the direct and proximate cause of a lunatic phoning in a threat of violence. That’s where this doesn’t pass the smell test. She’s blaming an interviewer for asking a reasonable question, how she, as a rape victim can wholeheartedly endorse a rapist and linking that to inciting violence. There is nothing in that question that is rape shaming, plus rape shaming per se would not necessary cause a lunatic to threaten her. Mace is making some pretty wild connections here and I don’t think she can defend them. But that’s not the issue. The issue is to get as much free press while defending them. She is playing the victim and she wants to get all the eyeballs on her latest personal drama that she possibly can. Daily Beast:

According to former staff, Mace was “abusive” and “all about control,” utilizing staff not as people “but as property,” reinforcing that environment via unauthorized software systems to constantly “micromanage the office all day and into the night and early morning.”

“If she needed us, we had to answer within eight minutes,” one staffer told the Beast, clarifying that the eight minute mark was a “rule.”

“Nancy is delusional as a boss,” the unidentified employee continued. “She says nothing publicly without her consultants or senior staffers telling her to, but takes credit for everything. She’s a walking teleprompter.”

Another former staffer went further, taking a jab at Mace for recently onboarding disgraced former Representative George Santos’s communications director, Gabrielle Lipsky, to fill the void.

“All this is why pretty much every staffer and fellow member on the Hill thinks she’s a joke,” the staffer told the publication. “Also a big reason why she’s only able to hire former George Santos staffers right now.”

She’s not only a joke, her staff guide shows her to be obsessed with publicity, particularly television spots.

The office’s staff handbook, which two aides said was also written by Mace herself, demonstrates the boss’s relentless focus on PR and media—along with her grueling expectations for staff.

In the document, the responsibilities and expected deliverables listed for the position of communications director are extensive; the person is expected to send out at least one press release per day, for example, a frequency rarely seen on Capitol Hill.

Beyond drafting press releases, website posts, and tweets, staffers on the communications team were told they needed to book Mace on a national TV outlet between one and three times per day—a staggering nine times per week, at a minimum, according to former staffers who had seen past handbooks—and on local TV channels at least six times per week.

The most recent version of the handbook is notable in how much more detailed it is in explaining communications roles compared to legislative or constituent-oriented ones.

Still, those staffers were subject to what one former aide called “not realistic” expectations, such as filing “25 new bills per year,” passing “10 bills out of the floor of the House annually” and getting one bill “signed into law annually.” Out of the 62 bills Mace has introduced since 2021, only one ultimately became law—the renaming of a post office in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. (For most members, seeing a substantive bill they wrote become law is a rare event.)

“It is not normal for a member to prioritize media and comms over actual legislation like that,” another former Mace staffer told The Daily Beast. “In my experience with and in other offices, comms serves to promote what the member is doing legislatively. In Mace’s office, legislation served to get her more media opportunities.”

She’s there to be famous, to create a brand. This is true Trumpism, fame being the goal sought, rather than fame being the result of good works done. Forget the good works, just get the attention.

Mace is the poster child of MAGA degeneracy. She’s infamous for mistreating her staff and she’s a Trump shill first and foremost. Another goal of this recent publicity gambit may be to get her a few notches up the list as Trump’s VP. Katie Britt washed out, Kristi Noem is looking like a fool with her infomercials, so Mace may figure that this is her shot at elevating her profile.

Mace faced two tough elections and now she’s got a primary challenger in June. So it stands to reason that she’s pulling out all the stops. I can’t wait to see what ABC and Stephanopoulos respond with. This is MAGA bullshit writ large. Mace may regret dragging all these eyeballs in to watch her when she falls resoundingly on her ass and gets primaried. It could happen. I don’t think it’s far fetched to say that her congressional district would be better served by somebody whose focus is on representing their interests in the House as opposed to being a TV star.

  1. She does no woman who’s actually been assaulted any favors. She’s a liar who supports a pedophile and a serial assaulter of women.

    • I was a,rape crisis volunteer. I handled two.cases involving minors, age 12 and 11, one of them a victim of incest. I had a very large and scary twelve year old boy try to.undress me and grope me when I was 8. I have a good set of LU vs and screamed bloody murder and he let me go. I saved myself, but not every victim is that lucky.
Mace is a monster, not for being a victim but for denigrating another victim. Curious here, did she report her tape and was he caught and tried? Because only a woman impregnated by her rapist who.has seen him.successfully convicted would deserve an abortion, according to the faux Christian GOP.
