The morning has been dominated, as predicted, by fallout over last night’s street fight in the House of Representatives, where Marjorie Taylor Greene went out of her way to find a reason to insult Jasmine Crockett. If you missed the fracas, Greene brought up the most recent conspiracy theory that Justice Juan Merchan’s daughter’s employer is somehow corrupting or influencing Donald Trump’s hush money trial. There’s no evidence of that. But Marge never lets the facts get in the way of a good story.

“I would like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge Merchan’s daughter,” Greene snapped.

Crockett countered: “What does that have to do with Garland?”.

“I don’t think you know what we’re here for,” retorted Greene. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up your reading.”

This is vintage Marge. She’s the most hated person in both chambers of Congress because of her irrational, pugilistic manner. Crockett’s question was straightforward and relevant and Marge answered the only way she knows how, which is to deflect to inanity and then launch a personal attack. She calls this, “fighting for the people.” No, it’s making an already challenging situation unnecessarily toxic and non productive.

The lateness of the hour may have contributed to the level of fatigue and hostility last night, although frankly I think the blow up was all due to Marge being Marge. Here is Jared Moskowitz’ summation of this ludicrous scenario. I don’t know how SNL is going to satirize this, unless they just show all the Reps throwing chairs and physically attacking one another. That’s the next logical step from that level of hostility.

Greene has no friends. I daresay even Matt Gaetz will give her the cold shoulder after this. The question is, can she be defeated in her deep red district?

“I’ve had the thought for a while now that she’s gonna lose this term,” said Deric Houston, a Democratic candidate based in Dallas, Ga. “I’ve even told my opponents, my Democratic opponents, one of us will be congressman next year. I did not anticipate that she would implode over the last two weeks, and make all of the GOP hate her as well, but that’s just luck.”

Still, even under ideal circumstances, it’s brutally difficult to defeat an incumbent member of Congress, particularly one with a profile as high as Greene’s.

Shawn Harris, a Democratic congressional candidate in Rockmart, Ga., acknowledges that national polls make the 14th Congressional District look “unwinnable” for Democratic candidates — the Cook Partisan Voting Index, for example, gave Republicans a 22 percentage point advantage in the district in 2022.

But Harris said the district doesn’t feel like such a lost cause for Democrats. When talking with voters in the district, many across parties are fed up with Greene’s endless antics, such as her failed efforts to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) from his leadership post, he said.

Neighbors also aren’t publicly boasting their support for Greene as they did in previous election cycles, Harris said. When driving through the district, ”you can’t find one sign that says Marjorie Taylor Greene’s running for anything,” he said.

“A lot has changed in the last two plus years,” Harris said. “Marjorie is in a fight with everybody in Washington, D.C., Democrats and Republicans.”

Greene could even come out of the running by doing “something wild,” said Clarence Blalock, a Democratic candidate from Hiram, Ga.

“She could resign, she could quit, she could get removed like Santos. Those are things that actually with her, those things become more likely,” Blalock said. During a recent visit to Greene’s Georgia district, Raw Story met with each of the four Democrats competing in the 14th District primary taking place on May 21. The winner advances to compete with Greene in November.

Greene is indisputably the worst member of this, or possibly any Congress. The basic premise of politics is compromise, being able to work through issues. She doesn’t have that skill. She’s a pugilistic bomb thrower and a sociopath. Georgia deserves much better.

  1. Well, I seriously doubt she’d get removed. The GOP is perilously close to no longer having a majority as it is. They may not like Margarine Traitor Greene but, you know the old GOP saying, “Better to deal with Satan than let the Democrats have the House.”

(Okay. Maybe that’s not an old GOP saying, but it seems like it could easily be one.)

    • “Georgia deserves much better.” Uh… well apparently not, at least not her district or they wouldn’t keep sending her back to congress. I think people who vote for her know exactly who she is, and they do it on purpose. So, there’s that.

  2. That area,of GA doesn’t deserve better. Margie is a pretty accurate representation of her district: a white xenophobic racist Southern belle. The Niece Froom. He’ll whom I frequently reference is a lower rent version of Margie: all the racist stupidity and adoration for Trump (sometimes I can’t tell.whether her worshipful posts are about Donnie or Jesus) without the money so her father couldn’t buy her a UGA degree like Marie’s did.

It shows how much she is hated when the other two members of the Triumvirate of Stupid, Incompetent Evil (Gaetz, and Boebert) turn on you.
