It is an old and very true adage, frequently attributed to that astute adage maker Benjamin Franklin, that guests, like fish and election deniers begin to stink after three days.
Which means, as far as Melania at least is concerned, that Kari Lake has been stinking up the Trumps’ moldy manse by the sea for the better part of three years. And Mel seems to have convinced her dotard husband of this also.
Whether there is only room for one strident election denier at Place de Ptomaine or the Donald has been keeping a running tab on the shrimp cocktails the never-Governor has been scarfing up on his tab we may never know, but, for some reason, the dam appears to have broken this weekend:

On Monday, the Washington Post reported the rift also was based over Trump’s concerns she is not out doing enough campaigning.“
I get it, if Melanie’s ain’t happy, nobody’s happy and though I am sure that she would as soon be the one leaving, well, she’s reportedly contractually obligated to stay.
Still, we all know what a cheapskate the Orangeutan is are we quite sure it not about his lost room revenue or the running cost of out-of-temp seafood and charcoaled steaks he doubtless keeps in his head?
“According to the new (Washington)Post report, there is growing tension between the Trump and Lake camps that she will be a detriment in a close election and that Trump has had to urge her to decamp from Mar-a-Lago and get to work winning over voters.
The Post report notes, “… since Lake jumped into the race, Trump has repeatedly expressed skepticism about her political prospects in a state he sees as key to his bid to return to the White House, and has shownannoyance with her frequent presence at his Florida resort, according to five people close to him, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe his comments.”
“At one point last year, after grumbling for months that she was at his Mar-a-Lago Club too often,Trump gently suggested to Lake that she should leave the club and hit the campaign trail in Arizona,” the report continued before adding, “Trump has also asked others if she can really win in Arizona and if she might drag down his own poll numbers as he seeks the presidency again in 2024, advisers said.”
Well, I guess WaPo may be right, he’s probably more concerned about her ability to help him win in November.
Well, that and all those Melania side-eyes.
Still I can’t help thinking she might have lasted longer if she had at least ponied up for groceries…

“Trump gently suggested…” Yeah, sure. Trump doesn’t suggest and he knows not gentle. But he’s a chickenshit so he’d have some lackey (eg Baldy Miller) tell her to hit the road.

For Melania, Lake isn’t young or “hot” enough to cause Trump to regularly obsess over banging her so she’s no use as a distraction – as in someone who might distract Trump from wanting to come knocking on HER door when he’s horny. As for Trump himself it’s likely a combination of both things you mentioned. She’s costing him rental money for her room(s) and has scarfed up lots of food on Trump’s dime which is bad, but she’s also probably dragging him down in AZ so that’s a huge issue to him as well.
