George Conway Tells ‘Wuss’ Trump ‘I Hope You’re Listening’

Few people can attack former President Donald Trump as expertly as George Conway, co-founder of the Lincoln Project. He was in fine form on MSNBC Wednesday evening when he really lit into Trump, saying that he’s too afraid to testify in his own defense.

Trump has, of course, continued to violate gag orders, attacking the district attorney, the judge’s daughter, and witnesses for his Manhattan trial, where he’s been charged with 34 felony counts surrounding the falsification of documents. But, he has never explained why, in his own words exactly why he’s innocent of the crimes he’s accused of, Raw Story notes.

And now, since Trump is prohibited from attacking others, he thinks he’s performed a clever trick. Because lately he’s gathered together loyal sycophants to speak on his behalf. Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R), has even admitted he was there to violate the gag order for Trump. A reporter told MSNBC earlier Tuesday that he could see Trump editing the statements from lawmakers while Michael Cohen was testifying.

You have to be some kind of sneaky to pull a stunt like this, and that’s Trump in a nutshell. And Conway, who is Kellyanne Conway’s former husband, likely saw more of Trump’s bad behavior than he cared to since Kellyanne was one of Trump’s key advisers when the couple was still married. Obviously there’s nothing Trump does that ever surprises him. Including all the GOP nudniks showing up at the courthouse.

“they’re bringing the people up there to show a fealty to him, to quench his narcissistic thirst,” Conway said. “that’s actually probably a good deal of what’s fully going on there. i mean, they are trying to maintain his psychological composure, which is a very, very difficult thing to do.”

During the interview, Conway told anchor Nicolle Wallace that if he were Trump’s lawyer, he would urge him to avoid testifying, recalling that one of Trump’s former attorneys told Bob Woodward, “he’s an effing liar.”

“if he doesn’t testify, it’s not going to be because he all of the sudden decided to follow legal advice,” Conway explained. “he’s causing his lawyers to do stupid things in court, like the cross-examination of stormy and cross-examination with michael. he doesn’t listen to his lawyers, if he doesn’t testify, it’s because he’s scared.”

At that point, Conway looked right into the camera and leaned closer to the lens.

“Donald, donald, you like to say the things in the hallway because nobody gets to ask you questions,” Conway said, needling Trump. “if they ask questions, you walk away. Donald, I hope you’re listening to me. you, donald, are a wuss. you are scared of actually doing what stormy daniels had to do and what michael cohen had to do and what every other person who is called.”

Conway zinged the former president for attacking everyone he calls a liar, but then never goes beyond the insults to take on the issue itself.

“you know, you can’t call these people liars, Donald, unless you go on the stand and tell your truth,” conway said. “let’s hear it. are you afraid, donald? i think you are.”

I’m pretty certain Conway is correct. It’s easy to for Trump to call people liars in places where no one can question him. He can just wave people away as they stare at the back of his head while he’s leaving. But when it comes down to it, if Trump takes the stand he won’t be able to explain why they are liars.

Because they aren’t. Trump won’t be able to withstand hard questions. He’ll crumble like graham crackers in a glass of milk.
