Bomb, fizzle and flop. That’s all you need to know about today’s rally, ostensibly for the purpose of calling attention to the plight of quote unquote political prisoners from the Capitol riot. Sidney Powell made quite a to do about getting lawyers on board to defend the rights of those “patriots” incarcerated for crimes they committed on January 6, but if she was there, she did not make her presence known.
The permit for the rally was for 700 people and maybe half of that showed up. The largest estimate I have seen so far is 400-450. Hardly a cause celebre.
Donald Trump said this was a “setup” to make him look bad.
With more than 600 people charged in connection to the insurrection, right-wing groups have pushed the conspiracy theory that the people who stormed the Capitol weren’t Trump supporters but federal agents, anti-fascist activists, or Black Lives Matter protesters. In social media posts, some express fear of ”glowies,” the term used by extremists to describe those whom they believe to be federal agents in their midst. And it’s in part why the leadership of groups like the Proud Boys have urged their people not to attend.
The main Proud Boys account posted on Telegram Sept. 8:
We (Proud Boys) ARE NOT going to this. It is a glow fest for try-hard clout fags that have erectile disfunction and others that are completely repulsive to the opposite sex.
Clearly confused about whether it wanted to be homophobic or not, the account added later that day:
Not only will we NOT be attending this glowing clout trap for the mentally disabled, but if any PBs do attend, they will be violently, but also sensually butt-fucked on a live stream and then banished from the fraternity
Comments among followers echoed that message: the whole thing must be a setup.
“Nonetheless, I suspect that there will be PBs in attendance who aren’t actually Boys, but glowies. Their playbook isn’t exactly varied,” one account responded.
In response to an article about the fence’s installation, another account asked, “Does the FBI need a fence for its own rally?”
Trump echoed that belief, telling the Federalist Thursday, “On Saturday, that’s a setup.”
“If people don’t show up they’ll say, ‘Oh, it’s a lack of spirit.’ And if people do show up they’ll be harassed,” the ex-president added.
At least one Proud Boys follower was confused, posting on Telegram Sept. 12, “I’m not sure if this means we aren’t going wink wink or really not going. What the fuck am I supposed to do.”
Even if the rally fails to draw a crowd of more than a few hundred, it won’t mean the movement has stalled; rather leaders have made a conscious decision to focus their efforts elsewhere, even if that means hanging Trump’s most loyal supporters—those who stormed the Capitol to keep him in office—out to dry.

Here’s a wrap up by Jim Acosta. It’s worth watching because the attendee with the fur hat simply refuses to believe that the Capitol riot was real. This is scary. This guy looks to be 18 or over which means he can vote. Give a listen, this is what the end of the republic sounds like.
I wonder what would convince this guy? Obviously not videos and there were hundreds of hours of video shot. Apparently not the testimony before Congress of some of the police officers who were there and suffered substantial physical injury. We assume he heard that on TV as well. Maybe if he spoke to people who were there first hand, they could convince him?

As if “Proud Boys” themselves aren’t “completely repulsive to the opposite sex.” Show me any woman willing to date a self-described “Proud Boy” and I’ll show you a woman who would willingly live under Taliban rule.
Since comic culture has kind of become acceptable fodder for the mainstream, the old stereotype of the “comic-book virgin man” has just about fallen away from being the victim of mainstream ridicule. Now, we can all ridicule the “Proud Boy” virgins, still living in their parents’ basements, desperately wishing they could be “cool” (or maybe “kewl”).
The only way to convince MAGAts of the truth is to have that truth be told to them by Trump. And we all know that will never happen.
On the issue of people not believing what they saw with their own eyes: my brother-in-law, who is one of the smartest people I know (seriously – he once applied to the CIA and his testing scores were off the charts), is also very right wing. His take on the insurrection, which, coincidentally, he just texted about yesterday: it was just a bunch of idiots who acted badly, all the others were invited in by police holding the door open, and they were all patriots; as opposed to Antifa and BLM who want to burn the country down like the tried to do in Oregon. So I guess that the police are allowed to invite you to break the law (hey, Sam, I’m a police officer and I invite you to shoot Bob over there”), setting up a hanging station, hunting for Pelosi and Pence and others to kill, and trespassing in offices and the galley and all over, stealing property, and defacing Congress is just patriotic Proud Boys being Proud Boys or something.
Moreover, he and his wife, as well as another GOP brother and sister-in-law of mine (the brother worked for the FDA and is likewise a pretty smart guy), all believe Biden was not legally elected. Holy f##K. I love these people, but really can’t stand the thought of being anywhere near them. Which is one of the worst things Muammar Covfefe and the GOP hath wrought – tearing families, friends and country asunder.
First, they are ‘smart’ only defined by a culture that values money, titles, safe choices. Would you call Dr. Ben Carson smart? He’s a surgeon. He’s also dumber than a rock.
