I’ve got to say that I was not expecting that Addison Mitchell McConnell was going to betray the Grand Old Party but I can only surmise that he figures in for a penny, in for a pound. They’ve followed Donald Trump’s madness lo these many years and McConnell evidently has concluded that he had two options: One, do a Barry Goldwater and either persuade Trump to step down (which would have been futile) or rally the GOP to choose another candidate. McConnell weighed the odds. He figured, accurately, that if he would try to get Nikki Haley or somebody else on the ballot at the last minute, under these circumstances, it would be catastrophic. So, while the results in November are also likely to be catastrophic, McConnell figures half a snowball’s chance in Hell is better than none at all.
So McConnell has decided to join the crazies, “loony” Marge Greene and her space lasers, the whole enchilada. The reason this surprises me is because if I was calling the shots, I would be worried about the down ballot. Trump is on his way out in any event, but the Senate and the House are still there. Evidently, McConnell has tested the weather vane and read the tea leaves and decided the best defense is a good offense and so he’s pushing conspiracy theory now.

Now what I would love to know is how Mitch thinks the case can be overturned when there was a unanimous verdict on all 34 counts. That I would like to hear. And I’m sure if you seriously could talk to him over a glass of bourbon, he knows damn well it can’t be. So he figures his only option is to rally behind Trump and hope for a miracle. And in so doing he’s mounted the pale horse and will ride it to the party’s doom.
Gone are the days when Barry Goldwater left the Senate chambers and walked down Pennsylvania Avenue and across the White House lawn. He told Richard Nixon that the jig was up and he had to resign. And Nixon did, for his own good and for the good of the country.
It’s interesting to me that my life is bookended by these two events. I was in college when all hell broke loose with Watergate and now in my 70’s, there is Trump. Thank God I won’t live another 50 years to see what the GOP comes up with next. I hated Richard Nixon — or at least I thought I did because the contempt I felt for Nixon in the 70’s is nothing compared to the burning hatred I feel for Donald Trump. Say what you will about Nixon, he was a self-made, hard working man. He was a lawyer and he respected government and democracy as institutions. He erred in the respect for his own office and that was his fatal flaw. Yes, he was a crook but he also legitimately had some abilities as a statesman and Trump never has.
Trump has no respect for anyone or anything. He’s committed to going through with the election and the rest of the GOP knows it. They’re hoping for a miracle, although I think in their heart of hearts they know better. Be that as it may, it’s not only McConnell. Susan Collins has jumped on board.
If you are still hanging on even though you’ve been disgusted since at least J6, after watching people like Mitch & Susan Collins trash the legal process & judicial system to defend the cult leader surely you understand now that it is past time to leave the Republican Party.

The GOP died today, folks, May 30, 2024. I’d say Rest In Peace but because of what they’ve put this country through in the decades they’ve been disintegrating and especially these past nine years, I say Rot In Hell.
This is way beyond normal partisan politics. The GOP is running a mentally unstable man, a man who’s not even in good physical health and who is now a convicted felon, in addition to an adjudicated rapist, on their ticket. They’ve decided that conspiracy theory is their only card to play. When you are down to where conspiracy theory is all you’ve got left, you’re like Thelma and Louise, whose only option was to drive off the cliff. You’re gone. Game over.
I hate Republicans. both my children know not to bring a Republicon to my home. Nixon did create the EPA and bush 1 signed the Americans with disabilities act that benefits many of us. this cult like obsession with trump just amazes me. my fiscal conservative grandparents would be horrified that it has come to this.
tRump, with his upside-down American flag flying conservative SCOTUS majority, could overturn the Americans With Disabilities Act in a New York minute (sorry, New York) if elected. He doesn’t like broken people (especially soldiers) any more than he likes black or brown people, or women…and the list goes on.

The ‘pube party died the day they nominated Von Shitzhispants (although, let’s face it, the party was on life support for decades). The corpse has just been an animated, putrid piece of meat since then. Maybe this will finally bury the foul, dead thing. This is what happens when you join a political party with conservative religiosos-you have an unstable structure that will fall eventually. The real pity is it has taken, what, four decades or better? They have done a lot of damage that will take a lot of time to fix if it isn’t too late for our nation.
What makes this mess, so sad, is the questions raised in the minds of the younger population, as it moves through the various levels of education … The lowest levels of public education include youngsters just learning to communicate with one and another, reading skills and writing in a legible handwriting … These promising youngest ones, are hearing verbal arguments among the adults at home, courtesy of the former, but still smelly Trump …
Next levels of education, middle school or Junior high, the kids bring opinions to school with them every day, most of them have NO IDEA what they mean, just that Mom and Dad were hollering about this …
I consider myself very fortunate that my social science teacher in Junior high was one of the first USA troops to enter a NAZI concentration camp for the inmate’s salvation …
He brought black and white prints of a couple rolls of film he used up during those first days, having pinned them to a folding bulletin cork board …
There were absolutely NO class materials provided in the Des Moines, Iowa, school system at that time … Since that time, the subject of the horrible NAZI/HITLER killing system, has been more of a find it if you can on the web, AT HOME, not in class … Too much reality for sensitive ears, I guess … Now we have an Ex – “president”, that champions Hitler and ALL HIS POWER, no matter how many people he killed …
I think if more youngsters were shown the TRUTH earlier, although quite sobering at the time, but included commentary from a first person witness, there would be less parent damage of these future workers, inventors and producers …
Trump would be delighted to hear someone took down a couple of those that have worked tirelessly to bring all the evidence of his guilt together, so he can receive the punishment he deserves … My wife and I have a friend that was a young girl in Berlin during WWII, she almost gets physically sick seeing how close the GOP/TRUMP team are doing the same stunts that Hitler used to gain complete control of virtually EVERYTHING in Germany …
