Mary Trump has been a national gift amidst a national nightmare. She is the perfect Trump analyst, having known him before he became politically active as family, watching him while he started his political career and then, of course, through today. Meanwhile, she also has a Ph.D. in psychology. It is almost like God gifted us someone who had radar that ran straight through Trump’s thick, pointed head.

Mary was on Katie Phang’s show this morning, where she affirmed our worst fears on several levels. Even though Mary worries about the same things we do, she is absolutely certain that Trump will use violence if indicted or at any point that he believes it will help him.

She is also quite astute about where things stand legally at the moment:

“I have to be honest, I have my dark days where I am not entirely sure the indictments are going to come. But if indeed they do, and I agree with you the first one probably will come out of Georgia, hopefully, many more shoes will drop.”

One gets that sense. Willis in Georgia, and the Manhattan D.A., maybe even Merrick Garland, all in a staring contest, hoping someone else will go first so that Atlanta isn’t the first to burn, or Manhattan… or many areas in Florida.

But, you know, in the meantime, we are in a situation where we are sort of in this state of suspended animation and more and more people are continuing to be fooled by outlets like Fox News and think that something has been stolen from them. Donald, of course, will use any opportunity to incite more violence if he thinks it suits him so we are not out of the woods.”

This is exactly what is happening. At every opportunity, Trump states that the people coming after him are bad people, the FBI is “the KGB and Gestapo” put together, and Jack Smith is a liberal hack. As Trump said yesterday, the country won’t “survive” without him being elected in 2024, and an indictment will only be used as a means to stop Trump before the election because Biden cannot beat him.

Ironically, this is exactly why some of us believed there needed to be a sense of urgency in the DOJ/FBI from the moment that Garland was sworn in, and instead, we got the opposite. It didn’t take a political genius to know that the longer it was dragged out, the easier it would be for Trump to say it was a political prosecution, and here we are.

Mary also offered a ray of hope that I had not yet fully appreciated:

“Yes, I was quite heartened I will say, that in the 2022 midterms nothing happened… there was no appreciable violence, even though a lot of election deniers lost their bids. And what I also found interesting is that most election deniers, with the exception I think of Kari Lake, did not put up a fight; they accepted their loss and they moved on., which is to say, I think it is not as likely as I might have thought a couple of years ago, but we still need to be prepared for all eventualities unfortunately.

Of course, even Kari Lake isn’t narcissistic enough to scream about burning Scottsdale to the ground if the stolen election wasn’t turned around. Trump will not be so restrained and may not even have to say anything. It’s already set up.
