Once again we get a hint of Donald Trump’s version of Christianity, which is far right-wing fundamentalism and bears as little resemblance to the Christianity of the New Testament as WWE bears to an actual athletic event. It’s all showtime and sparkle. As we get ready for another major Xian holiday, here is Trump blaspheming away and following him will be the true travesty: the *pastors* like Richard Jeffress and Paula Jones, who cover for him.
Political pastors launder the rhetoric. The president profits from the piety. The policy is the performance.

Interesting how Trump obsesses on I.D., particularly in a day and age where the drivers licenses are all going to “real” I.D., requiring a birth certificate to get the license in the first place.
And it will be doubly intriguing to see how the so-called Xian pastors explain how Jesus wants you to walk around with a passport in one pocket and a notarized birth certificate in the other.
What’s going on here is Trump is laying the groundwork to claim massive voter fraud in the event that the Republicans lose the House, which it begins to look increasingly like not only a reality, but a reality of tsnuami proportions. That’s Trump’s main goal.
Secondarily, he’s fine with placing an undue burden on voters so as to winnow out as many voters as possible. ID’s without a photo will be rejected, meaning that a passport might be required to vote, in which case fees will be assessed. That’s the equivalent of a poll tax, which has been illegal for some time.
Nevertheless, Trump wants the Senate to abandon the 60-vote threshold so he can push the SAVE act through. And so-called men and women of God will help him in his unholy quest to exclude voters. That’s what is particuarly disgusting.
The irony is that meeting Trump’s requirement would disenfranchise more MAGAs than liberals. In theory. In practice? I don’t believe so. Not for one minute.
Recently on FB a classmate from back home shared a post from some gal who described an incredibly easy process of contacting the place she was born and getting a certified copy of her birth certificate for fourteen bucks. Then just calling up where she got married and being sent a copy of her marriage certificate at no cost. It was a ‘ha ha it was convenient and inexpensive’ piece of b.s. although she omitted the hassle and cost of getting a new driver’s license.
I’ve only got a regular driver’s license in NC but I got a Real ID years ago in WV and it was more complicated than just my old DL and a copy of my birth certificate. Also, because the first copy I presented wasn’t formatted the way their manual said it should be (It had my middle initial instead of my full name and didn’t match my license. The manager himself showed me the page and had it been the other way around, with my DL only having a middle initial but my birth certificate my full name I’d have been good to go. My point is the technicalities are there and will cause no end of hassles. Add in a marriage license and I’m sure it would get more so!) and I had to make TWO trips and sit through the type of waiting DMVs are infamous for.
Anyway, I explained the cost of obtaining just one birth certificate from the county clerk’s office which is in our hometown (it’s the county seat) was twelve bucks twenty years ago. Also, after checking on their website about applying online that section wasn’t functional! It did explain how to apply online and the documentation I’d have to send. Plus a check for sixteen dollars AND a self addressed and stamped envelope! I then went on to hit her and others back home where it hurts. One of classmates is the older sister of a true MAGA Congress Critter. A fucking punk as far as I’m concerned. At least the dog HE shot and killed was grown and not a puppy but he killed that dog in the yard in front of the kids of a guy who’d been a childhood friend. Then dared him to call the police who of course wouldn’t have done anything. This was before he was even a Congress Critter. I said his sister Debbie would NEVER have to bother jumping through the hoops. She’d be able to walk in, say “I forgot my wallet”, be given a ballot and vote. In and out in no more than ten minutes. Same for most back there where almost everyone knows almost everyone else. I specifically included my sister who for several elections volunteered as an election judge. REPUBLICANS in places like that won’t have to show ID, unless perhaps there’s a news crew present for a bit, or a Democrat is allowed to be at the table as an election judge checking in voters. I’m sure they’d try to have such folks doing other tasks like monitoring the actual voting booths to make sure no one is peeking on someone else for example.
Since then not a single MAGA/conservative (which most of the people I knew back there have become) has challenged me. They know I told the truth, which is that for all the talk in MAGA communities all across this country the SAVE Act requirements won’t mean shit. MAGAs known to be MAGAs will almost always get to vote, ID or not much less the type of ID Trump is demanding. People should know that so as not to go getting cocky as voting time approaches.
Plan for the worst starting now. And that includes checking your registration regularly to ensure you aren’t ‘accidentally’ purged from the voter rolls.
Given how hard it is for me to get around I’ve taken to voting by mail. A fellow veteran in my building who gave me a ride to get my ballot signature notarized suggested using the drive in option during early voting. When I said that would be great, and I had a way to discreetly deal with the call of nature if needed while he waited in line inside he pointed out HE could vote from the car too. I did it a couple of times back before my car died. However I’m thinking of going whole hog. Going inside and dealing with the long line. I’m figuring being disabled I’d be allowed back in line if I had to use the head. I’d behave until AFTER my ballot had been scanned and dropped in the ballot box.
Then? I’d pull out and don a while ballcap with FUCK TRUMP written in marker on it. And take off my outer shirt to reveal a T-shirt with FUCK MAGA and FUCK TRUMP in big letters on both the front and back. Sure, I’d get hustled out and they might even call LE but IF there were any ICE assholes present I’d make sure to call them fascist pussies to their masked faces!
