MAGA Is Mad At Mike. Pompeo, Not Pence

It seems former Trump suck-up, Trump CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is back in the news. Frankly I’d forgotten about him. So long ago I’d stopped thinking about him as a possible “rescue candidate” if Trump flamed out before or at the GOP convention. However, it seems he’s tried dipping his toe back into the waters of GOP relevance, and let’s just say MAGA isn’t at all happy about it!

According to Newsweek, Pompeo has let it be known he’d be happy to serve in a second Trump administration. If asked:

In a Friday interview with Fox News, Pompeo said that if Trump is reelected, he would be willing to join his administration again.

“I don’t often comment on jobs I’ve not been offered. But if I get a chance to serve and think that I can make a difference … I’m almost certainly going to say yes to that opportunity to try and deliver on behalf of the American people,” Pompeo said.

As I’ve indicated the reaction from MAGA is to rise up and tell Trump NOT to ask.  Mikey was a good little Trumper as we shall see, at least until after January 6. As someone who I started to believe during the Trump administrations had delusions of grandeur about one day ascending to the Presidency himself he decided to try to quietly create a little distance.  Once Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 election when asked if he’d help make sure there was a smooth transition Pompeo said sure, there’s be a smooth one to a second Trump administration and it was already underway. Hmmm. What if any role he might have played in the Jan. 6 attack

After January 6 Pompeo seems to have decided perhaps he should head out the door with a small bit of plausible deniability and meet with incoming SecState Blinken. If only for show. More importantly, he instructors our ambassadors to let other countries know Joe Biden had WON the 2024 election and would be sworn in on schedule. MAGA was a turd formed by the GOP who’s mascot is an elephant and like an elephant they have a long, long memory. It seems from the linked article that there are “issues” being expressed on twitter. Then there’s something more direct from an all too familiar name:

He wasn’t the only one. For those of us who follow politics and have kept up with all the post 2020 election goings on in Arizona the name Wendy Rogers is familiar. Not for good reasons mind you but familiar. She chipped in her 2 cents as well:

Another twitter/X user named Wendy Patterson who’s profile IDs her as MAGA had this to say (sorry, but there was no tweet to show):

“Mike Pompeo was CIA Director for almost 2 years under Trump’s administration all while the CIA implemented the “Russian hoax” against President Trump. Pompeo didn’t fire anyone. Now, Pompeo was seen on TV saying that he would serve under a second Trump administration if asked. He would even consider the Vice Presidency. Mike Pompeo is a RAT waiting in the wings to disrupt Trumps second term,” she wrote.

Let’s hope this attempt at getting back into the political mix by Pompeo is short-lived.  He’s a real piece of work, in the sense that a gutless and spineless worm tangled up on itself in a knot is a piece of work. It’s something, but not anything you want to see or have anything to do with. So just to remind everyone let’s take a closer look at someday Presidential wannabe Mike Pompeo.

He’s a 1986 graduate of West Point where he seems to have done well, as a cadet. His class included some cronies who in govt. and GOP circles would one day become known as the “West Point Mafia” which is maybe why Trump liked him to begin with. Pompeo however didn’t plan on making the Army a career. For him it was a way to get a great education, and “punch his ticket” with a military credential he could use to advance in life. And politics in particular. He would complete his five years of mandatory service and leave active duty as a Captain which indicates he was a solid and effective officer. He served mostly with the 7th Cavalry, a tank division.

I mention that last part because before the end of his active duty service the first gulf war, Desert Storm took place. Pompeo for “reasons” that have never become clear somehow wasn’t deployed to the war zone with others although he certainly could have made sure to do so. Even in a short conflict combat on his record would be noteworthy. But Mikey is is classic “Chickenhawk” who talks tough but when the time came for him to “put up” he turned away. Or ran away. What matters is that when he went into politics about half of the stuff on his websites and in profiles suggested he’d been deployed. Pompeo never seemed interested in correcting THAT bit of  his record!

Alas, during his Senate confirmation for SecState he had to admit that reports he’d deployed to combat were incorrect.  He got a pass, under the guise of having never been known to “directly” say he’d deployed to the gulf but geez… How the hell could he NOT know the portrayal of him being a combat vet was not just out there but pervasive?  It should have derailed his nomination (it sure as hell would have derailed any Democrat’s!) and he got confirmed. Another West Pointer, Paul Eaton (Class of 72) ripped Pompeo (and some others in his class) to shreds in this Business Insider article.  I urge you to read it. What did General Eaton have to say? Well, there’s this:

A retired two-star US Army general rated Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s performance as “disgusting” and described Defense Secretary Mark Esper as a “lightweight coward.”

Yikes. But Gen. Eaton had plenty more to say. From the linked article:

Both Esper and Pompeo graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1986 — a fact that was not lost on Eaton, who graduated from the college in 1972. Some graduates of the class of ’86 call themselves the “West Point Mafia” because of their senior positions in the Trump administration, according to Politico.

“What is wrong with West Point class of 86? Who mentored you?” Eaton added in his tweet. “What happened to the West Point Honor Code in your class? America is very badly served by these men.”

Eaton even called Pompeo a “lightweight coward” in a tweet!

There’s also the issue of Pompeo lying about Ukraine, specifically that “perfect phone call” between Trump and Zelenskyy. You know the one. When Trump was holding up aid (a sale of anti-tank missiles and some other military equipment) that had been approved by Congress. Trump tried to blackmail the new Ukrainian President. Pompeo initially played Sgt. Schulze (from Hogan’s Heroes) – the “I know nothing” routine. Or that he only knew some bits and pieces. Well, it turns out he was actually in on the freaking phone call!  Pompeo flat-out LIED.

This guy should never, ever service in government again. He broke more than West Point’s honor code. He broke his Oath of Office. Both on active duty when he actively avoided deployment to a war zone, abandoning his “buddies” and then as a civilian.  It’s a weird feeling to actually be agreeing with MAGA that this guy should STFU, go away and STAY away. Even if it’s for different reasons. Well, if they can convince Trump to banish Pompeo from MAGA and whatever the GOP becomes, and in the process tarnish him enough he can’t be part of some new non-Trump version I say have at it. I’m happy to have them do the work of fully disgracing Mike Pompeo.
