I remember cringing back in 2016 when the lie was first promulgated that Donald Trump was a born again Christian. That one machination spawned the Bizarro World idolatry of a man who is a moral reprobate, an out and out ethical disgrace, by any normal yardstick. Yet the Evangelicals and the White Christians all love him. And of course the Dominionists do. They’re all dying for a theocratic government to be instituted. Trump is their savior in that regard.

Trump is not a born again Christian. David Barton, the Texas faux historian and Evangelical, realized Ted Cruz was not going to get the GOP nomination and so he had to work fast. Barton asked James Dobson, a radio host who was the idol of Mike Pence at the time, if he would travel to Trump Tower in June of 2016 and spread the faux tidings of Trump, the allegedly newly baptized savior. And so it began. Take a look at two clips here, one of Trump idolatry and one of Newsmax complaining that the Left idolizes Taylor Swift in a similar fashion. Not even close.

Okay, you’ve had a good laugh, right? You’re going to have an even better one now.

I’m with Jesus on this one. I have known far more people who are atheists, yet are moral, decent people, than I’ve known sane Evangelicals. The few Evangelicals I’ve known are fanatics. At first I wondered, “How can they embrace somebody like Trump?” And one day it hit me, in forest-for-the-trees fashion. They love Trump because he’s a charismatic cult leader with a following and that’s all the Evangelicals are. They are a prosperity consciousness cult, which has as much to do with the teachings of Jesus as the study of palmistry has to do with neurosurgery. But that, I believe, is the answer.

Trump has his cult, the Evangelicals have a similar cult, and the two cults overlap perfectly because they both cater to White, rural, low-education people of limited experience. And don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying all rural people are ignorant. Some of the most brilliant and accomplished people I have ever known are from small, rural towns. But they made it their business to get beyond those towns, both experientially and educationally and become part of a larger world — even if they still maintain a home in those small towns.

Small town and small minded is not necessarily the same thing — unless you are talking MAGA and Evangelical. Then, the tiniest mind you have is an asset, because nobody wants you to think. They want you to absorb dogma and do what the cult decrees and fear the rest of the world who is not a member of the cult.

That’s the common denominator between the likes of Kenneth Copeland, Katt Kerr, and Donald Trump. They’re all living very high on the hog from the donations of those they lie to and deceive. And in the name of Jesus, no less.

Back to Trump and Taylor Swift, Rolling Stone is reporting that Trump is very threatened by Swift.

Behind the scenes, Trump has reacted to the possibility of Biden and Swift teaming up against him this year not with alarm, but with an instant projection of ego. In recent weeks, the former president has told people in his orbit that no amount of A-list celebrity endorsements will save Biden. Trump has also privately claimed that he is “more popular” than Swift is and that he has more committed fans than she does, a person close to Trump and another source with knowledge of the matter tell Rolling Stone.

Last month, the source close to Trump adds, the ex-president commented to some confidants that it “obviously” made no sense that he was not named Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year — an honor that went to none other than Swift in December.

In an email to Rolling Stone, Trump campaign senior advisor Jason Miller shrugged off the prospect of a Taylor Swift endorsement for Trump’s rival. “Joe Biden might be counting on Taylor Swift to save him, but voters are looking at these sky-high inflation rates and saying, ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’” Miller wrote.

The former president has already taken public swipes at Swift because of her endorsement of two Tennessee Democrats running during the 2018 midterms. “I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now,” Trump said following the pop singer’s statement.

Swift also blasted Trump during the 2020 election, accusing him of trying to “blatantly cheat and put millions of Americans’ lives at risk” following the Trump administration’s efforts to hinder mail-in voting amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, as Trump has been having a popularity contest with Swift in his own head, others close to him —including GOP operatives, some of his 2024 staff, and Trumpy media figures — have been brainstorming different ways to go after Swift. Since late last year, these Trump allies have repeatedly discussed how to turn the culture-warrior dial up to 11, if she re-endorses Biden this year, the sources recount.

“It would be more fuel thrown on to the culture-war fires,” says an official working on the Trump reelection efforts. “Another left-wing celebrity who is part of the Democrat elite telling you what to think.”

And they’re not worried in Trump world, they want you to know. Taylor Swift can huff and puff but she won’t bring Trumpty’s house down. No, Siree.

“Since Biden is so weak, they need others to shore up his credibility. Won’t matter [since] his disapproval is driving the race. Voters aren’t fools,” John McLaughlin, a top pollster for Trump, says, in response to Rolling Stone’s questions regarding Swift. “Celeb endorsements of Biden are like donating to Nikki Haley. They are a means of virtue signaling. It’s like wearing a medical mask in public after COVID … Celebrities can endorse Biden but it doesn’t lower inflation, stop wars, fix the border, or lower crime. Biden’s job approval still sucks. So Trump is still winning and will win.”

We’ll see what we’ll see. It’s a long long way to November and Trump has many miles and several trials to go before he sleeps.

  1. Man of the year? For what? Sh*tting himself? Rivaling palin for the most incomprehensible word salad? Ol’ Fred really should have worn a condom that night. He really should have.

  2. My Niece From Hell is an evangelical. When she started going to an incredible crazy church my SiLA decided to do so too. But like many organizations in the South, including churches,,Mean Girls are at the top of the hierarchy. A, who.died in 2022, didn’t have a mean bone in her body. After several years she left that church. When she died, her daughter hadn’t spoken to.her or allowed her to.see the 3 grandkids in three years. After she died, Niece Poo deluged her FB friends with sad, sad posts about she missed her mother.
    Yeah. Right
Her younger brother, a transman, was in the same boat. S he hadn’t spoken to Alex in 3years.
But she posted non-stop about her admiration, nay, adoration of Trump. She devoted herself to posting about DJT in pretty much the same way she posted about Jesus.
    Idolatry.
