Ah yes, another classy day in Congress. It’s only a question of when, not if, one of the Republican Mean Girls decides to take a rattail comb and stab Jasmine Crockett, who seems to particularly annoy them. Not that there isn’t plenty of MAGA on MAGA action. Last I knew, Rep. Greene was still not talking to Rep. Boebert after Marge called Bobo “a little bitch.” But today was particularly bizarre in the House because Nancy Mace got not only self righteous, as usual, she got downright confrontational and asked Jasmine Crockett if she wanted “to take it outside.” Personally? I think Crockett could kick Mace’s ass and I would love to see it on Pay Per View. Sign me up toot sweet.

 

First of all “chile” and “child” are not the same thing, although they can be. I’ve heard people in their 80’s call each other “chile” if they’re from a certain area of the country. It’s like the catch-all term, “Ya’ll” which can be any number of people, any age, gender, cats and dogs even, you name it. It’s just how folks in a certain section of the country talk to one another and even pets.

But Nancy Mace is never a body to let a perceived slight go by. Who knows? She might be able to turn it into another George Stephanopoulos moment and get fourteen million bucks for Donald Trump. Can’t let a culture war moment like that pass, amirite? So of course it got crazier. *****WARNING PROFANITY****

But Mace is thrilled. She got her opening. Now she can get her staffers on the phone to right-wing bookers and she can get at least half a dozen, maybe more, appearances out of this.

That isn’t what Crockett said. The issue is not a generic fear of rape. The issue is a fear of rape coming from another member of Congress, who happens to be transitioning from male to female — and would actually commit the act of rape in a Capitol bathroom or changing room. THAT’s the fantasy. And Crockett is right about that part of it. It is an attenuated fantasy at best, considering the tiny fraction of the population which is transgender and the subset of that population which is in either chamber of Congress or may soon be.

Mace needs to have a cause to crusade on because that gets views and qualifies as angertainment. That’s all Mace knows how to do. So she’s thrilled that Crockett gave her the opening.

As to one member of Congress asking another one (or anybody of importance) to step outside, it’s the times we live in. Do you remember this travesty?

Maybe this all just has to happen now as we break into tribal warfare. I remember back in 2016 wanting Bernie Sanders to get the Democratic nomination — not because I believed he was a better candidate than Hillary Clinton was, but because I believed he was more electable. I had myself convinced for some time that it was the year of the populist and Bernie would have beaten Trump. A lot of people thought that.

Now, seeing Trump 2.0 on the horizon, I’m thinking that maybe the insanity that is Trump and the fracturing of the GOP just can’t be forestalled. Maybe it had to happen. Millions of people believe reality TV is “real” and not made up like it is and they bought Trump’s fantasy persona.

We live in an era where fantasy and personas supersede depth and substance. It’s all about which media silo you dwell in. We don’t share the same basic narrative of plain facts in this country, we have two narratives of the facts running side by side. That is the problem.

And within one of those narratives, the Trump narrative, is a man child who has sold a bill of goods to enough Americans to where he gets to walk scot free from a number of criminal trials.

This is pure tragedy. But if you look closely at all the supporting players in this political soap opera that we watch daily, there are a great many people who have sold their souls to Trump because they can only create whatever they can create in politics by getting on board the circus train. Without Trump and the crisis of the day, they have nothing legitimate to bring to the party.

In a sane world, it is highly doubtful that Nancy Mace, Marge Greene, and most definitely Lauren Boebert, would be anywhere near Congress, except maybe to answer the phones.

Maybe my prejudice is showing here, but after being with a black lady from Alabama for two decades, and knowing her friends and acquaintances, that self important white lady has no idea who she’s messing with. Black women have grown up battling everyday of their lives just by being a black woman in a racist white man’s world. They not only are battle tested, they can, and will throw down on someone should the provocation warrant it. Nancy, being a privileged white lady, would not be glad after she ‘took it outside’. Maybe Ms Crockett attracts so much negativity from the members because she’s not only stunning in appearance, but she is knowledgeable, confident, well spoken, and isn’t afraid of the racists in congress. Just guessing. If she had been appointed Attorney General when Biden took office, Trump would be sitting in a federal prison as I type. Maybe Nancy is attracted to her and meant it as a pickup line.

    • Maybe. You may find Mrs.Wiggins screwing up the phones, and the rest of the crew in the handicap bathroom huffing the cleaning supplies.
