One small step down for Kevin McCarthy, one giant plunge into the abyss for the Republican party. We’re speaking of course of the election of Mike Johnson to the post of Speaker of the House Of Representatives. Mike Lindell, for one, is tickled silly. Best news he’s had in a while.

I don’t know if Lindell TV has already shut down or maybe it’s just downsized. It is possible that Brannon Howse is doing his part from his hallway, where he has a blue background meant to simulate a studio. Lindell makes no pretense at all. He’s zooming from his car — or maybe this is where he lives now. Could this be an RV stop?

“Fixing our elections platforms.” Whatever that translates as. Now let’s go from the ridiculous to the sinister. It turns out that Vladimir Putin is also elated that Mike Johnson has been elected, according to Russian TV. The last time they were this excited, Madison Cawthorn was the new face in town.

“Kara Leena” is apparently a state, at least according to the Rooskies. They identified Virginia Foxx as being from “Carolina.” I guess the copywriters at Russian TV don’t know that North Carolina and South Carolina are two different states. Not that accuracy is anything with these folks. Russian TV is pure propaganda. And, sadly, the United States is providing less and less of a contrast with Russia as the years go by. I am now beginning to understand what it is to live in an autocracy.

Johnson’s election marks an ominous turning point in our country. Kevin McCarthy was inept and an opportunist, but he wasn’t a batshit crazy fundamentalist who thinks the earth is less than 10,000 years old and dinosaurs and men lived at the same time and took a ride together in Noah’s Ark. Point being, a quantum leap to the deranged side has taken place with the election of Mike Johnson. I’m still searching to see if he’s a QAnon afficionado and believes the other side of the aisle is drinking adrenachrome cocktails.

It’s been said that Mitt Romney is “the last Republican.” So what does that make McCarthy, the last Republican imitator? I’m no defender of the used car salesman from Bakersfield, but at least he had some semblance of being a part of the Gingrich, Boehner, Ryan lineage. This new guy is the hillbilly cousin who’s scary.

The House of Representatives is something straight out of a Southern Gothic novel with this fellow holding the gavel. Would that Truman Capote or William Faulkner were still with us. Their insights are something I long to hear. They grew up with Mike Johnsons and they could tell us what makes this breed of cat tick.

Here’s Steve Schmidt’s take on Johnson. You recall how KKK leader David Duke is from Louisiana. Then along comes Steve Scalise, also of Louisiana, and describes himself as “David Duke without all the baggage.” Now there’s Louisiana congressman Mike Johnson, who Steve Schmidt describes as “David Duke carrying a cross,” as in “when fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” Wow.

  1. Once Hitler was given power on the inside, it was all over. We now have a christo-fascist as speaker of the house. If that doesn’t give you pause then either you are naive, distracted, or a fool. You decide. I knew my five uncles from WW2. Those in combat were never the same. The rest kept their experience in the vault. My dad was a Korean war vet, and I believe that contributed to his alcoholism and the release of his rage. My other uncle was wounded in Nam and a green beret. I also had cousins who served. I luckily didn’t have to kill anyone while my life was threatened daily in jail for four months. Violence is familiar to me. I’ve either been trained or somehow lost the ability to be afraid when sh*t goes down. I wish people could live by the golden rule but they won’t. I believe in nonviolence but when my Baptist church going mom shot my dad, I knew it was self defense. I don’t doubt for a second these fascist have no conscience. That means should they help end democracy and install dictator Trump, we will be forced to stop them by any means necessary. The only reason I walked out of the pen alive was luck & being a loner, but I also had to become a scary person that seemed more trouble than it would be worth to phuck with. I made killers think i was just like them…dangerous. Hell, I was dangerous. Had I stayed longer who knows. Our citizens have been so far removed from the violence that established and saved this democracy, we think we can talk our way out of danger. We are in a fight for survival. As a life long survivor I know it when I see it. We have one phucking shot to end it with the vote, but we have to get every self serving traitor out of power. If not, we have no more ability to imagine the horror, than those poor souls in Maine. It’s those same traitors who have doubled the amount of guns on the streets in the last twenty years, and taken the sale of AR-15 type weapons from 2% twenty years ago to 25% today. In prison I knew there was no safe place unless I was in my locked cell. Even then I couldn’t be sure. We, as a society are already at war. There have been 36 mass shootings so far in 10 months. There are 30,000+ dead citizens so far this year! Please tell me we aren’t at war. We have crossed the Rubicon. I dont find it productive to live in fear. In the joint, killers could sense fear, and they preyed on the weak and afraid. This is the time to consider yourself a solider. If you feel afraid, just remember, as FDR said, there are more important things than being afraid. Fight for our children and the future of their children. Don’t give up. When you get knocked down, get up! Remember…when you stand for freedom, every person who ever sacrificed for freedom stands with us. I’ll rejoice with you when these fascist are in jail or on the run next November. Vote!!!!!

  2. “…The House of Representatives is something straight out of a Southern Gothic novel with this fellow holding the gavel.”

Please consider correcting this to: The Republicans in the House…

  3. It will be a rough 14 months until the next Congressmen are sworn in. I believe that there WILL be a backlash to the anti-abortion, fascistic, authoritarian (etm.) positions espoused by the GOP and that Congress will be firmly in control of the Democrats.

I HOPE, but don’t expect, the majority to be enough to reverse some of the egregious events the GOP has perpetrated, Beer man, Maids tale onto the SCOTUS, just as a start. To expel those members that took an active part in the attempted insurrection and more, not as revenge, not as political dialog, but because they have lied and broken their oath to support the Constitution and this country.

  4. Growing up in what was then called the Upper East Side of Manhattan in the 1960s, I learned (and used) the slang term “Johnson” to refer to the male sex organ. And NOWwww, rather appropriately and ironically, we have a “Johnson” as Speaker of The House.😁😁😁😁😁

I’m going to refer to the Speaker as “Louisiana’s Johnson” from now on – anyone else with me?
