I’m sure we will learn more, more than we want to have to over time about Tyler Robinson who’s been arrested for shooting and killing Charlie Kirk. Two things have been taking place. First, starting from the moment it was announced Kirk had been shot (even before his death was announced) conservatives have been trying to Canonize Kirk. Paint him as a saint full of goodness, kindness and caring for all humanity. For the record I call bullshit. The second is that as soon as Robinson was arrested conservatives have been working to ‘dirty him up’ as some left-wing radical, even ‘Antifa’ member. Once again I am calling bullshit.
It’s common with events like this for things to get reported by credible journalists and outlets that turn out to be wrong. They are of course eager to scoop each other and if what they feel is a credible source go ahead and report some tidbit without checking it out for themselves. For example it was reported Robinson was a registered Republican. His parents are, but it turns out he is registered Independent. RWNJ types have posted pictures and videos showing ‘Robinson’ at left-wing events. It turns out the person depicted wasn’t Robinson! My point is that a large scale effort by Team Trump all the way down to rank and file MAGAs have been screaming Robinson is a dyed-in-the-wool left wing ‘Antifa’ type radical.
There’s a problem with that characterization as this article from Alternet explains. As they say in their headline he’s far from a “Central Casting” example of someone supportive of, much less a member of Antifa. For that matter think about the last ‘Antifa’ incident you can recall. Bet you can’t remember! Even conservatives seemed to lose interest in flogging the Antifa narrative. But I digress.
As the linked article explains Robinson is from a Republican family living in a $600k home in a nice suburb. He spent LOTS of time with guns including going to gun shows. Yes, that’s him in the title pic posing with a .50 cal machine gun with fellow gun nuts at some special range. And with a freaking anti-tank missile on his shoulder! I defy conservatives to find pictures/videos of Antifa types (back when they actually were a thing) ‘training’ with guns of any kind, much less heavy duty military weapons.
So as I say that creates a conflict with the picture conservatives have been painting. Robinson grew up in a staunch conservative home, around guns his entire life. And hugely interested in them as he attained early adulthood. The linked article quotes an OpEd by David Gardner in The Daily Beast:
 “Tyler Robinson loved guns,” Gardner explains. “His mother posted a picture of him posing with an M2 Browning 50-calibre machine gun. Photos of him and his brothers with every type of weapon littered social media. He went to gun shows with his parents and was given a gun kit for Christmas. He also liked gaming. And putting provocative comments online. Robinson lived with his parents, both registered Republicans, in a $600,000 house in a comfortable Utah suburb.”
Gardner went on to say Robinson appears to be the kind of young man who would go to a Charlie Kirk event to offer support. (emphasis added) Maybe a Turning Point USA (the influential organization Kirk founded and ran) member. His father Matt Gardner also noted is an avid Trump supporter! We don’t know yet (although I’m sure authorities do) whether the Mauser bolt-action 30-06 was part of the collection of guns in the home he grew up in. I’m betting it was, and that’s why authorities haven’t been saying jack about how he got the weapon. It’s not a story that helps them advocate for people to have extensive gun collections.
I also find it curious that Robinson enjoyed making provocative posts on social media. So why hasn’t the FBI released any of THAT? I have no doubt at all if there were any from him that indicated “WOKE”, or left-wing radical ideology or even sympathetic views of Antifa conservatives would be BLASTING them all over the internet. So, let’s just say I feel fully justified in telling you to tell others to hold off on judgements about Robinson’s motivations. I DO want to emphasize you should where you can push back on the narrative conservatives are pushing.
For myself, I have a theory but freely admit it’s speculation. Kirk and Turning Point USA was a thorn in Trump’s side on the Epstein files. Up into this summer in fact. Trump of course hasn’t been able to quell the anger from his MAGA base for reneging on his campaign promise to release the Epstein files. The more he’s stonewalled the angrier they’ve gotten. Kirk for his part, even when he was still pushing for their release said he was certain nothing was in them that would make Trump look bad.
He also is said to have, in conversations with Trump said that very thing, while also passing along the widespread views of his own followers their anger over the files not being released. Trump told MAGA to move on and they have refused to do so. He’s lost control, at least on this issue. And Kirk lost control of his highly influential group Turning Point USA on it too. A few weeks ago Kirk had an apparently serious chat with Trump, after which HE started telling his members to move on. At a recent Turning Point gathering some prominent conservatives said no way. So as I said just as Trump lost control of MAGA, Kirk lost control of Turning Point on Epstein.
I won’t go down the CT rabbit hole on any motivations someone on Team Trump decided ‘taking out’ Kirk was the way to go. That’s pretty far out there. What I CAN believe is that given all the anger Trump created by hawking release of the Epstein files and then turning around to fight tooth and nail to bury the whole thing a dangerous situation developed. Kirk’s capitulation, which didn’t go over well with Turning Point might have been the catalyst. Remember that stuff about Robinson seeming not much like an Antifa type but a supporter of or even member of Turning Point who admired Kirk?
What if Robinson felt Kirk had betrayed him and other MAGAs? I CAN believe it caused Robison to proverbially ‘snap’ and decide Kirk was now part of the enemy, the ‘fascist” “establishment” and that he sold out. That makes a lot more sense to me as to why he’d murder Kirk in cold blood. I’ll bet if you think about it you’ll come to the same conclusion.

Given the politicized, compromised, corrupted DOJ/FBI etc., you had to figure they were going to blame the left for this, no matter the evidence to the contrary. This administration is not to be trusted or believed about ANYTHING! All lies, all the time.
Reporting at first was that Robinson was living in the family home. It included neighbors being shocked to learn someone they regularly saw was responsible for this crime. Now, Fox News is claiming the FBI has proof Robinson was living not far from his parents, sharing an apartment with a ‘trans’ male in the process of becoming female. It claims the roommate is cooperating with the FBI. (From what I’ve read Robison himself is not) Curiously unlike neighbors in the parents neighborhood there don’t seem to be residents (at least yet) of the building where Fox says Robinson was living. Noe any paperwork like a lease agreement (I know where I live if someone were to move in I would lose my apt if I didn’t report it to management) or utility bills etc.
Maybe that will turn out to be true, that Robinson for all his upbringing and hanging out with MAGAs was trans friendly. So much so he was in a relationship with someone who’s trans. It’s common for mixed/conflicting information to come out in these situations. And there’s also the fact two things can be true at the same time – Robison had MAGA beliefs and also expressed support for influencer Nick Fuentes, while secretly being supportive of trans people. Or at least one. Think about how many conservatives who’d railed against gays have turned out to be gay themselves!
From what I’ve seen Fox is the only outlet truly running with this story. I think I saw one other outlet (can’t remember which) mention it but with Fox making a BFD about there info coming from the FBI one would think this would be a bigger story today. Could it be most journalists and outlets have decided to do some checking of their own instead of accepting (as Fox did) what Patel had to say?
I’ve written about Robisnon what I’ve seen reported by credible outlets. Fox is NOT a credible outlet – they are the GOP’s pet network. That doesn’t mean some of them don’t try to get the facts right and check things out. But by ‘some’ I mean not all that high a percentage.
