Here we go again with Trump trying to change history. This is getting ridiculous. Didn’t like his painted portrait, called black history “woke,” and tries to pull it from everywhere, including the Smithsonian, and slaps his name on everything so it’s about him first, then anyone else. At least they had to take down his name on the Kennedy Center, which is something else he has ruined. Will he or won’t he pull off all the “gold” when he goes? Because one way or another, he’s going to go. With appreciation for Raw Story:

Judges signaled skepticism of the Department of Justice’s defense for scrubbing references to slavery at a historic site, according to reporting by the New York Times. In January, the Trump administration removed placards and videos commemorating the history of slavery at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. After a lawsuit by the city of Philadelphia, the National Park Service had to restore the displays, but the DOJ’s appeal of the ruling isn’t going well, the Times reported.

Ahaha. More BadA$$ judges telling Trump, essentially, no, it’s not going to work. Who comes up with these locations? This one could be considered small, so who felt the need to make a production out of it? Placards and videos. Really?? Pulled them down because of slavery. They keep trying to cover up slavery, and it isn’t working. Slavery was a big part of our history for quite some time. But they don’t want to teach it in schools anymore.

Two of the three judges on the appeals court panel “appeared skeptical” of the administration’s position during a Tuesday hearing. Judge L. Felipe Restrepo, an Obama appointee, questioned whether the government was seeking “unfettered discretion” over the site. The third judge, Peter J. Phipps, a Trump appointee, appeared more sympathetic to the government’s arguments. Independence National Historical Park preserves sites tied to American independence.

It’s more whitewashing, and two of the judges knew exactly that, no matter how much the DoJ tried to spin it. The other judge kinda had to be more inclined towards them because he was a Trump appointee. Nevertheless, this is about law and history, not spin. Just because Trump is trying to change slavery doesn’t mean it should be changed. Remember the Smithsonian caving to pressure and removing the exhibit? Forts have been renamed. We won’t get into the whole Civil War. That’s a completely different animal.

At the Tuesday hearing, DOJ attorneys argued that Trump had the power to remove those carved names. The Trump administration initiated the removal with an executive order calling for a rollback of a “distorted narrative,” the Times reported. The hearing was attended by more than 100 people, according to the Times. Cara McClellan, an attorney representing groups allied with the city of Philadelphia, told judges: “Just imagine if the government removed the Lincoln Memorial right before the bicentennial. That’s the kind of dangerous precedent that we must avoid here.”

Trump is screwing around with history, including his riot. It was so hard to watch the people grabbing things, taking them, desecrating the space, and going after Mike Pence and Congress. We have to push back on all his travesties. Republicans today have realized that they don’t have to back off on something for Trump. They’re getting their spines back. Let’s hope it continues through midterms. We already know that Trump is going to be saying “stop the steal,” and the election was stolen, no matter what actually happens. We have to hope that there isn’t another insurrection with Congress egging them on (see: Josh Hawley). But back to the original topic, we can overcome.

[Picture is a generic skeptical judge.] See you soon!

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
