Sweet Jesus! It’s been less than 48 hours since J.D. Vance was declared the winner in the Ohio GOP US Senate race. And already he’s already shot himself twice, once in each foot. And the beauty of it is, not only might both incidents came back to haunt him, both of them should.

The first one directly led to the second. In the first one, a GOP consulting firm submitted a requested report to a pro Vance Super PAC, pointing out some possible pitfalls in their candidates future. The listed some things I did, as well as others. His arrogance, his inability to portray himself as a working class man, his uber rich friends and contacts, and his rarified lifestyle, along with being a part time resident, also owning a house in D.C.

Now, there’s nothing stupid or unusual about this request. Super PACs loyal to a candidate, and sometimes even the candidates campaign commission reports like this so they can deal with potential problems before they explode in their faces. The stupid and unusual part is that the consulting company actually posted the report on their website, and now Vance’s opponents have all kinds of free goodies to feast on.

Which leads us to foot wound number two. Any time there’s an internal fuck up like this, it requires an immediate, strong, confident public response, one just reeking of leadership and ability. So J.D. Vance did the only thing he could reasonably do.

He booked an emergency slot on the truly pathetic Fucker Carlson’s show. Which immediately turned into a Nightmare on Elm Street. Look, Carlson may be a filthy, lying, double dealing lowlife, but he’s not a magician. He has to work with what he’s got. And despite his best mealy mouth efforts, neither Carlson nor Vance could come up with an even marginally plausible reason for Vance’s flip-flops on Trump. Look for oppo attacks ads coming from that.

But then Vance pulled the trigger himself. In talking about the consulting FUBAR, Vance stated that it was A shocking revelation to him that there were so many incredibly corrupt GOP consulting firms out there. Not only does a candidate and his campaign have to fight the Democrats, they have to fight incredibly corrupt GOP consulting firms too!

This poses two immediate and consequential problems. First, this was a totally negligent fuck up on behalf of the consulting firm. But now that it’s blown up publicly, it may make candidates and Super PACS from trusting any GOP consulting firm, putting them all on food stamps and welfare. But worse for Vance, it begs an uncomfortable question. Why would anybody want to vote for a candidate who is so stupidly incompetent that he Deals with incredibly corrupt GOP consulting firms? Better yet, why vote for any GOP candidates when the organization is admittedly corrupt? Tim Ryan can run on this for two cycles.

But here’s the moral of the story. As we plod forward towards November, get used to this kind of lame, stupid bullshit. Because this is what happens when you have moronic, political neophytes who run solely on a slogan, and don’t have a campaign capable of dealing with fallout. And the GOP is chock full of them. Just remember Trade chickens for medical care Sharron Angle of Nevada, A rape victim’s body has a way of shutting that whole thing down Todd Akin, and I am not a witch Christine O’Donnell of Delaware. And don’t even get me started on Caribou Barbie. And this year the GOP has a bumper crop.

So here’s my advice. Grab a six pack, fire up the microwave popcorn, sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy the show. It should be a doozy.

  1. Our fellow citizens vote for these people and think, nay, insist, that it’s BLM that’s burning down the country, the Dems who are racist, Biden who is causing COVID problems, and, oh, I don’t know, Jewish space lasers ruining their vegetable gardens and ballots. SMDHID.

    • Yes, they do…But outside of safely gerrymandered districts, there aren’t ENOUGH of them…And many GOP states used their 2022 gerrymander to buttress STATE seats, and not US House districts…Ahh, the browning of America…

  2. Vance suffers from what I’d call “Beggar Man’s Syndrome”. To wit, because his early life was so poor and harsh, he lives in terror of ever toppling back into it. As a result, he is willing to do anything he thinks will keep him as far away from that.

The problem becomes that he’s let all his fear do his thinking for him. As such, he’s paranoid about anybody who can send him back, which fogs up his thinking process and makes him trust the wrong people. Add in his inability to understand that politics is NOT the same thing as business and we’re seeing the predictable results.
