2023 may go on record as The Endless Winter, politically speaking. Ever since Donald Trump prematurely announced his candidacy for POTUS in mid-November, 2022, the country has been shoved into prediction making mode about the next presidential election.
This is unheard of in February of the year before an election year, but this is where Trump has put us. He prematurely announced because he was under some delusion that doing so would call off the dogs of law and that definitely didn’t work. He’s got more lawsuits and trials coming up now, than before he announced.
But none of them and I mean none, not even Letitia James, whom he calls Peekaboo and makes clear that he loathes, nor Fani Willis (which ought to keep him awake at night) have got Trump hopping more than Special Counsel Jack Smith.
Trump has reposted his usual plethora of QAnon memes. This is different, though.
So what has Trump all in a twist today? The fake elector scheme? That’s under investigation. There are two criminal grand juries in Washington right now, one relating to 2020 election interference, the January 6 insurrection and another relating to Trump’s intimidation and harassment of local and state election officials. They both dovetail with the fake elector scheme.
Then of course there are the accusations that Trump has tried to use shell entities and other vendors to skim money from contributions that he’s not entitled to. Has Smith gotten too close for comfort on one of those topics?
Or, there’s Mike Pence. That’s had Trump going for days now. Or, Trump’s lawyer Evan Corcoran is being approached to testify under the crime-fraud exception. See, here’s the plain truth of the matter. Trump’s fighting his war on so many fronts, with so many theaters and so many actors, it’s impossible to know which one has him going nuts on any given day.
All we can do is guess. The only thing we know for sure is that Trump is in act out mode once again today and the exact trigger that got him there, only he knows for sure.
