Wow. January could be one wild time if Jack Smith gets his way and the trial in United States v. Trump (the insurrection trial, not the classified documents trial) gets rolling on the first business day of 2024 and continues the entire month, or until mid-February at the latest. Smith says it will take no more than four to six weeks to put on his case in chief.

Let’s see what Trump’s lawyers respond. They, of course, will not want to move this fast and you know how they will characterize it as election interference, bla bla. But as we say here every day, what’s going on in the court of public opinion and what will fly in a court of law are two different things.
This is probably why Trump has been going bonkers for the past few days, talking about how he’d “rather be living in the south of France.” So would we, Donald. Can you arrange it?

If Trump could put together a deal wherein he left the United States and never set foot on our soil again, a lot of people would go for that.
All quiet on Truth Social except for the usual polls, showing Trump winning, winning, getting so tired of winning. I guess he posts those polls after upsetting news breaks because it’s his way of telling himself he’s going to win bigly and then pardon himself. That appears to be his only hope of staying out of prison.
The hearing set for the end of this month, which is going to include setting a trial date is going to be quite the affair. And that’s only as things currently stand. Trump has already formally waived his right to be present but given attacks he’s made on so many regarding all his court cases (including of course DC) and that he’s not going to STFU I can easily see the judge ordering him to appear. To receive a formal dressing down. And since the terms of what he’s allowed to say and what not will have been worked out formally agree on the record that he’s had them explained by his attorneys and understands them AND will abide by them. Personally I think he should have to sign that particular judicia order right there in front of the judge and have the clerk carry it from him to the judge just to make the point.
