You knew that Donald Trump was keeping his angst bottled up. He was not happy on Tuesday when his favorite fiction of a love fest of cops and tourists at the Capitol on January 6 was smashed, leaving in its place a harrowing story of indignity, brutality, chaos and death. That is not how Trump wanted it remembered as, not by a long shot.
So apparently he sulked and now the Daily Beast is reporting that Trump has had an image for quite some time of the Capitol cops as not living up to his standards of masculinity.
In private discussions this summer, Trump has told some people close to him that several of these officers strike him as weak and as “pussies,” according to two sources familiar with the comments and who described them independently. Trump has also maintained that these men seem “broke[n]” by the events of Jan. 6, and that they do not have the supposed toughness or character of the law enforcement officers who, on the whole nationally, still widely support Trump and his policies.
According to these two people, and another source with knowledge of the matter, the twice-impeached former president has also alleged that these particular police officers are letting themselves be used as pawns by anti-Trump Democrats, like Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), or simply despise Trump and are Democrats themselves.
However, there have been times when the ex-president has expressed some measure of pity for these men, saying that he feels sorry for them—but mostly because Trump thinks they’re being used or exploited by his political foes, the person with knowledge of the situation said.
A Trump spokeswoman did not provide comment on this story by Thursday evening.
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the return call.
Poor Michael Fanone. He’s getting heat from the Trumpers and he admitted to voting for the guy in 2016. And I can see why that’s the case. Trump was putting out this line of bull that he was some super duper alpha male who was going to fix everything. A lot of people bought it. Why, I’m not sure I will ever know. The fact that he was an idiot and a con artist was plain as day but apparently in some demonstration of spontaneous mass hypnosis, those facts were overlooked and people believed the hype. Maybe they wanted to believe the hype, that government was so easy and the outsider from the TV set could fix it.
We now see where that fantasy went. I think it’s safe to say that when Fanone punched the card for Trump he never could have believed in his wildest dreams that things would turn out the way they did. But a lot of us could. A lot of us saw it for just what it was from the get go. We knew there was no bottom.
What is needed now is for Trump to testify before Congress. Nothing less.
The former guy couldn’t even try to enlist when he was of an age to do so. And he has zero respect of anyone who isn’t a psychopath.
