I’m all for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg receiving all the help he needs to prosecute Donald Trump in his criminal business fraud case in connection with his allegedly concealing hush payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Indeed, Bragg just received a healthy dose of positive news that former Trump Organization chief accountant Allen Weisselberg will likely enter a potential perjury guilty plea, Raw Story reports. This, argued former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti on MSNBC Thursday could turn out to be a huge gift.

“your reaction to this news?” anchor katie phang, who’s also an attorney asked mariotti. “i guess Timing is everything, right? we are waiting for judge arthur engoron to issue his ruling on the remaining counts that were under trial the last few weeks. do you think that’s why we haven’t received anything yet from justice engoron?”

“That’s a great question,” Mariotti responded. “i think he’s probably taking his time on that opinion because it’s an important one. it’s very consequential.”

“really, i think, regarding this news, what i would just say is that you have to know that allen weisselberg is giving alvin bragg and his team a heck of a lot. realistically, a prosecutor putting a witness up for the prosecution who’s pleading guilty to perjury, you know, that’s not going to be a very attractive witness.”

The unspoken takeaway here, Mariotti explained, is that “in order for that witness to be worth the time, they’ve got to be giving up something really important. That’s what I think is really the news here.”

What this also really means is that for Trump, this could be the most expensive f*ck in history. There’s even the tiniest (though unlikely chance) that he could do time over this, but as Vox notes, his chances of becoming a convicted felon by election day are shrinking.

Federal court proceedings in the District of Columbia stemming from his attempt to upend the 2020 election have turned to quicksand and the Florida classified documents case against him has slowed down, thanks to Judge Aileen Cannon. And now Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is up to her eyebrows in problems that are serious enough to throw any future prosecution into question.

It’s all become a quagmire but at least we can look forward to Trump’s possible undoing by an adult actress who fortunately only had to work for a minute or two.

I’ve included the clip featuring Mariotti below.

    Please STOP repeating this nonsense.

It’s a repeat quote from MSM, who could just as well have and should have been writing: Ms. Willis is scheduled to file responses to unfounded allegations as well as attend a hearing on Feb 15th.

C’mon, we can do better here.

    • Agreed! tRump wins every time we make an unproven allegation on “our side” a blazing headline when it doesn’t have to be and should not be until we wait to know the facts. tRump just loves it when we do this!

  2. The thing is, there was no reason for the cover-ups. The knuckle-draggers who follow him would be all like, “Wow! Dude banged a porn star and a Playboy playmate? High-five!”

  3. In the opinion of experienced criminal trial lawyers on both sides of the “v.,” DA Fani Willis has violated NO ethical rules. A grand jury, however, has charged defendants in that case with felonies. A petit jury of their peers will decide whether DA Willis and her team will have proved up those charged felonies beyond a reasonable doubt. End of story.
