Sunlight Is The Best Disinfectant

If what I’m thinking is true, this could be terrible news for the entire GOP, not just Trump. I just twigged to this today from a minor filler piece on an MSNBC shot today.

It’s news to no one that the entire GOP, with one sole exception, is desperate to put the 2020 election, and especially the January 6th insurrection in the rear view mirror. The exception is, of course, El Pendejo Presidente. As long as he continues to hold the reins, the horse is going to keep circling around to the same corral.

The reasons are pretty obvious. There were enough honest, state ordered and run recounts and audits of the results in the closest states to make The Big Lie start to appear ridiculous the longer it goes on. And worse yet, due to arrogance and manifest incompetence, it is impossible to separate The Big Lie from the Capitol Hill riot.  From the moment Trump and his flying monkeys took the stage, their inflammatory language plainly laid the blame for the violence at their feet. Later interviews with rioters and investigation showed that they felt they were following his orders. And later investigation showed that far right extremist groops actually coordinated the attack, waiting only for Trump’s signal. The Republican party engineered a revolt against the duly elected government of the United States. The GOP badly needs this to go away and be forgotten.

There are a few problems with this. First, Trump himself will ensure that the attention keeps getting focused on the past every time he opens his mouth. Second, the Democrats are going to push forward with an investigation, bipartisan or not. And thanks to GOP obstruction, it will almost certainly creep well into next year, you know, the midterms? Finally, due to federal court backlogs due to the Covid pandemic, the cases of the more serious charges that actually proceed to trial won’t even begin until February of next year.

This is why all of this is important. MSNBC reported today that there is a new, anti GOP attack out dealing with the insurrection. It combines segments of taped interviews with Capitol Hill police officers, and audio layovers of their words overlaid on graphic scenes of the violence. It’s a powerful indictment.

And FOX News has banned the ad, refusing to air it even when paid going advertising rates! And I cannot tell you how jarring this is. I am now a FUX viewer, but as a part of my job, I am a FUX peruser. I tune in occasionally throughout the day, just to see what temperature the stupidity level is set at. As a result, some of the time I am subjected to ad breaks. And I normally suffer through them just to see what third rate companies want to be connected with the Trump Propaganda Ministry.

This is a clear break of protocol for FUX News. I watched more of FUX during the campaign, and they were what I would be called an equal opportunity advertiser. Maybe it was greed, maybe it was confidence, maybe it was wanting to keep the FCC off of their ass, but they advertised, for the most part, what they were paid to advertise. The Lincoln Project regularly put their anti Trump ads out on FUX and Friends just to twist Trump’s tail. And they pocketed the cash and aired the ads. Here in Nevada, they regularly aired anti Trump attack ads, and we are considered to be a swing state.

Why now? and why this particular ad? The aftershocks of the January 6th insurrection has stubbornly remained in the mainstream news through the ongoing investigation, with video constantly replayed. And Trump has been banned from social media, unable to put out a widespread dissenting view. And there’s only so much a bunch of GOPtard incumbents can get the message out in the national media. Also consider this. After nine months of basically a lockdown, where FUX was their only form of information, people are getting back outside again, socializing, meeting with friends,  and going back to work. And as a result, they are being presented with a shit load of, what did KellyAnne Conjob call it, alternative facts from people they know and trust.

So, why this ad, and why now? Does FUX have internal audience polling data that shows that the Capitol riot is a weak spot for viewers? Or has Trump and/or the GOP gotten a hold of FUX, asking them to put the clamps on anything that could continue to highlight the insurrection? All I know is that, based on my personal experience with FOX, this is aberrant behavior in their advertising. As Rachel Maddow likes to say, Stick a pin in this one. And don’t touch that dial.

  1. “ The Republican party engineered a revolt against the duly elected government of the United States.”

That is the only fact here that matters.

……and while the peons, are charged and indicted, the ring leaders at the top prance around free, stoking the flames of their next coup attempt.

Anyone who does not hold these people responsible is breaking their oath of office by NOT defending the Constitution from domestic enemies. They share the blame for this.

This should have been addressed months ago.

  2. I recall a biting speech from the classic Twilight Zone episode “Deathshead Revisited” about “the Nazi theme music at Nuremberg, the new lyrics to the Gotterdamerung, the plaintive litany of the Master Race: we did as we were told or others did it, we had no idea it was being done or we did it but others told us to.”

  3. The January 6 insurrection was the best gift Republicans could’ve ever given Democrats. What a marketing point! What a knife to stab them in the back with! Scream it loud and clear, shout it from the rooftops, these republicans and their trashy ignorant followers tried to overthrow our democratic government and they need to pay through the nose! Vote ‘em all out!!!

  4. Agree with all of the above, including the article. Was belatedly jarred by the fake Russian headline. Please tell graphic designers it does NOT say Fox News, or anything close. Peace
