In The 2024 War, The Democrats Have Already Won The Most Important Battle. Branding And Messaging

We still have one more day to go, and if the first three are anything to go by, they’re going to need a new roof for the United Center. Just a quick aside, as I told Teri tonight, if I was Kamala Harris’s campaign manager, after this four day lovefest, I’d have her come out tomorrow to Sister Sledge’s We are family. It fits like a glove.

When this convention started, my fondest hope was that the Democrats, at least the young Turks would tear Trump to pieces, hit him where lives, in his ego.

But they far surpassed my fondest wishes, because of the way that they did it;

• One speaker said that Donald Trump only knows how to hold two things. A grudge and a golf club
• President Obama skewered Traitor Tot with a pithy, For nine long years, since Trump rode that elevator, it’s been a nonstop barrage of complaints, whines, and grievances
• In just under two beautiful minutes, former First Lady Michelle Obama skewered Trump like a shish-ka-bob without. ever. mentioning. his. name. Instead she named each of his myriad sins and criminal outrages, leading in with If any of us walked to a mountain, we didn’t expect an escalator to be there to take us to the top!
• Rum Walz neatly parted Trump’s hair with an axe when he said, I’ve been a coach long enough to know that if somebody takes the time to work up a playbook, They intend to use it! referring to Project 2025
• Walz also skewered JD Vance with I grew up in a town of 400 people. There were 24 members of my high school class, and none of them went to Yale

The list goes on. But no matter what happens tomorrow night, the Democrats leave Chicago with a precious gift. Not just momentum, although I expect a surge of +5-7 points in the polls next week. What they gained was that they successfully branded Trump and the GOP, and made their own contrast while the GOP is struggling to tie their own shoes.

MSNBC has already reported that in the GOP convention , the keynote speakers almost all went close to or over their time in their fawning praise of Traitor Tot. As Bill Clinton noted tonight, Trump starts every appearance like an opera singer warming up, Me, me, me, me, me. To every goddamned GOP speaker, if you weren’t a MAGAt, you’re an enemy of the state. Jesus! Projecting Stalin much, guys?

In the last three nights, there have been at least a half a dozen former Trump associates and White House advisors who have taken to the stage to strip Traitor tot bare behind the scenes. And each and every one of them made the same point, Hey! All of you independents and undecided voters out there, even Republicans. If you vote for Kamala Harris, that doesn’t make you a Democrat, it makes you a patriot! Reinforcing that pesky abandonment permission structure.

I keep coming back to the same old quote from Will Smith in MIB II, Old and busted. Young and hot. Trump had freakin’ Kid Rock, Hulk Hogan, and a spouse abusing MMA righter. Who have the Democrats already had with one night still to go? Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and Oprah. How can the GOP compete with that

But here’s why they won the battle. This battle isn’t going to be decided by the MAGAt’s who didn’t watch, or the Democrats that are already motivated through the roof. It’ll be decuded by the soft GOP, Democratic, and Independent voters who will cast the ultimate deciding votes.

And the contrast couldn’t be more sharp. Melania couldn’t bother to be present for a single day of Trump’s trials, but Gwen Walz has been there every night. Melania wouldn’t allow Barron to speak at the RNC, but Walz’s children teared up and surged to their feet when Walz shouted them out from the podium. And while Traitor tot only had one son show up for his criminal trial a couple of times, half of Walz’s championship football team stormed the stage in their jerseys after the speech.

As much as I wanted the attack dogs from the Democrats to turn Trump’s own abusive tactics back on him, the Democrats did it better. Instead, they hit El Pendejo ex Presidente where it jurts him the most. Their every attack made him look small, cheap, and petty. They exposed him for exactly what he is, a narcissistic sociopath, a bitter, vindictive small time thug. And all of those valuable undecided and independent voters were tuning in, and nodding their heads.

And coming out of this convention, the Democrats finally have their bumper sticker and rallying cry. And they can use all of those. But now the Democrats have their overriding message. For the last three nights now, and certainly to continue tomorrow, you’ve heard four years endlessly, We’re. Not. Going. Back!

In four days the Democrats have made the contrast clear in a white hot spotlight. Do you want to go back for four or more years of rancor, hatred, sexism, misogyny, angst, and self pitying whining, or would you rather vote for a brighter and more positive future, one that if nothing else, doesn’t include Traitor Tot constantly in our ears and heads?

The contrast couldn’t be more stark, and the contrast was what the Democrats most wanted to get out there in this convention. Whatever else happens earlier tomorrow night, look for Kamala to lean heavily on her vision of progress, prosperity and national unity. Her attack dogs have already mauled Trump. Now it’s time to hone the message and agenda.
