President Donald Trump is increasingly making moves that even his subservient followers in the GOP cannot abide, and according to a new report from The i Paper, his latest blunder involves the detention of a beloved Catholic nun. Now, his ICE agents have detained a Catholic nun, Sister Leticia “Letty” Ugboaja, prompting even conservatives to lash out against the president’s handling of his immigration agenda. The i Paper detailed the arrest of the nun, described as a “well-known source of goodness,” in a report from Saturday.
They. Detained. A. Nun. She should have been left alone. She was walking to the church. But because her skin was the (not) “wrong” color, she was detained. What in the hail is going on here? Geez, people, think, if they can! It’s challenging to find the words to explain how outrageous this is. Are they really that desperate?
“Sister Leticia Ugboaja, known as Letty, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials while walking to a service at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in southern Texas, near the Mexican border,” the outlet detailed. “The Washington Post reported that officers confiscated her rosary and put her into handcuffs. The church confirmed the Nigerian nun, who was dressed in her habit at the time, had been taken into custody before the story quickly spread beyond the local community after it was shared on social media.
What is the matter with these imbeciles? A nun, in her habit, was detained, and they confiscated her rosary, then put her into handcuffs. JFC. The backlash from this is intense and is going to get worse. I hope someone slapped those agents. We all know I sparingly use violence through words, because I, and everyone here, I would think, do not generally condone physical violence. There is more than enough of that in sports and on television. But this??!!! [Yes, I would be upset at this happening to anyone in the church, no matter which, no matter the color of their skin.]
The report continued: “The backlash was swift and unusually bipartisan. Democrats and Republicans, including South Texas Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, intervened directly with federal officials to secure her release. By Monday, following intervention from De La Cruz and other members of Congress, Sister Letty had returned home.”
It *should* have been bipartisan. It should never have happened in the first place. She had a lot of support. Think of all the others who were snatched and just … disappeared. There are people missing other people. No one knows where they are. And if they were put on a plane and sent to some random country, are they still alive? No one knows. No one! …. Now, here is the “best” comment of the whole article.
Trump’s newly appointed DHS Secretary, Markwayne Mullin, was quick to address the situation, saying in his own statement that “As I have repeatedly said, our immigration enforcement should target violent criminals. A Catholic nun on her way to church is not a threat to our community.” He was far from the only conservative voice to speak out.
Remember what this meathead said about Iran? Hypocrites ‘R’ Us. He says what will make him look good, when we know the *real* person behind that title. He’s just full of it. Still haven’t decided if he or Gnome is worse. So far, it appears to be this guy. We saw this coming when he was nominated. He’s an idiot. Wonder what racist Stephen Miller thought of this. Probably popped champagne.
ICE is back in the news. ICE is probably getting desperate to take a nun off the street. There is no possible way to stuff into Miller’s head that his quotas are impossible and that the actions of ICE reflect on Meathead and then on him. All the new agents need to have proper training. They’ll never get it, and DHS is still trying to add new people. At least they were out of the news for a bit. A nun. They took a nun and her rosary.

Someone in the media should have clapped back at Mullethead with “Then WHY was this nun arrested* in the first place by YOUR people? If YOU have been–in your own words–repeatedly saying that ‘violent criminals’ should be the targets, apparently you have some ROGUE agents who should be PUBLICLY disciplined for their overzealousness. What are YOU going to do to ensure other innocent people are NOT going to find themselves targets for other rogue agents in YOUR agency?”
*If I’d been such a reporter, I might have been more tempted to use words like “abducted” or “kidnapped” because those would be much more accusatory and loaded. But they’re not wrong.
