For the first time, I’m writing a column entirely in the first person, please excuse the self-absorption momentarily because I hope to convince you it is worth it. To that end, meet Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma and you better believe that this guy is dyed red from head to neck. Give him credit, he’s the only member of the Senate without a four year college degree but he is also a self-made millionaire – probably one-hundred fold. He is not a fool, that’s for damned sure. It only makes him a more difficult adversary and I don’t say that about another American lightly. He is yet another threat to democracy – big time, and he casts a big time vote on certification of an election.
Per the Constitution, he has to use that vote in the right way or he’s fundamentally un-American. He went on CNN to be interviewed by Pamela Brown – who is no fool, either. She pinned Mullin down in questioning whether he would – if every single state had certified their election and Kamala Harris wins, if every state certifies – would he vote to certify the election on January 6th putting Kamala Harris in as president. He didn’t yet know. He leaves it open. He leaves open after every certification is in. Open…
To what?
That is the problem. He doesn’t know, or at least he doesn’t yet know how he’ll feel about the election as certified by 50 states, it won’t necessarily pass his certification test. I believe you can rest assured that he will vote to certify a Trump win if 24 of the right states certify and the rest of the nation is in disarray. Watch this if you have time or just skip down below for our analysis.
PAMELA BROWN: “If Trump loses and every state certifies the result, will you accept the peaceful transfer of power?”
SEN. MARKWAYNE MULLIN: “It's hard to say.”
Expel these TRAITORS!!!!

Pamela Brown is generally awesome and she’s earned her promotion from weekends. She really leaves a “mark” on Markwayne. He fought her on it but he is the guy that nearly got in a fight during a committee meeting. Therein lies another problem, he’s already “that guy” – the one you don’t want to have standing in the way of a hard-earned victory.
So – every state certifies their election. That means that all court cases are resolved and there is a clear winner. As much as we’d hate it, we would absolutely be compelled to accept a Trump victory certified at every level. That is how democracy works – we are left to stop any variances he illegally takes later on in court.
But Markwayne seems to be looking for a fight in denying Harris a legitimate victory. This is the type of person that the Founders envisioned in so many ways and thus wrote a Constitution that prevented any one person from deciding anything. But what if he represents the majority of Republicans in the U.S. Senate? (We almost assume the House Republicans will bury their MAGA heads in the sand but we’d need only four to five to accept democracy) But the U.S. Senate is weird by nature. One guy can actually do a lot. It is only a question as to how far he will go.
Mullin tried to save himself somewhat by saying that if those elections met “federal standards” he would vote to certify but it sure sounds like he will be the one defining those standards… Unless Donald Trump wins.
This isn’t a question whether questions still exist as to the winner. No – it has been officially decided. So Mullin deserves to be called out as – for now – the most un-American man in the U.S. Senate. He is actively trying to bring the country’s 240 year history of democracy down. In a technical and real sense, he’s an enemy of democracy and thus the Constitution. He raised his hand to protect that same Constitution, but now he adds conditions, personal conditions.
Just like he has set out his “standards” ahead of time, so should we. This is awful and Markwayne Mullin should receive a barrage of emails calling him out. I started it, I hope others finish. And, because I”m here to serve, send them here. Call him out.

This is treason or at least, at the moment, conspiracy to commit treason. Its’ head is trump/vance and it goes down to all who participated in j6 or who are planning a repeat performance this coming January. This guy is a traitor, that much is certain.
I wrote a “nice” message to Mullin, but I was unable to post it on his website. I’ve had this happen before, even as far back as when I tried to express my opinion to the famous Jeff Sessions.
If you don’t have an address in the guy’s (or gal’s) district, your message is rejected. At least I tried!
I worried that it might be the case. But good job anyway. People can call his office in Washington and it will get through. But thanks.
jason
I’ll see if I can get through to his office by phone. Thanks, Jason!
Make up an address. Look one up on line and post it as your own. I did that to post to someone in another state who was being a dickhead. So I got it to post and I got a response. There are many ways around a situation….May not be ethical but probably not illegal. I should be able to write to any elected official, right??? lol
I believe these corrupt Republicans will do all they can to deny a legitimate Harris victory, but the really scary part is the Supreme Court, corrupt to its core, will simply award the presidency to Chump, like they did for Dubya. They’re the big dogs, the highest court in the land. Who’s gonna stop ’em?
There is no one left to stop them
“he’s the only member of Congress without a college degree”
Untrue. He is the only member of the Senate who does not have a Bachelor’s degree. However he does, I believe, have an Associate of Arts degree.
“Congress” refers to either the House of Representatives or the combined houses of the Senate and the House.
There are 22 members of the House who have no degree higher than a high school degree or GED. How else do you think we ended up with an ignoramus like Boebert?
Well, then Wiki has it wrong. It may have said Senate and four year degree. But I ALWAYS appreciate corrections, so big time thank you for that. Nice job. It will not be the first time Wiki is wrong.
I applaud your calling out Senators who refuse to certify the will of the people! But I will pick a nit with you on two counts: First, I could suggest at least 4 or 5 other senators who I believe are more “Un-American” than Mullin. Case in point, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton (who interestingly served in the Army Rangers in Iraq), Tommy Tuberville, Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, John Kennedy, and on and on. But my second “nit” is this. As the Senate was being evacuated with a violent horde literally banging on the doors, all the Senators save 5 scurried to safety. Markwayne Mullin was one of these 5 (interestingly, all 5 are Republican) who stood to defend the Senate Chamber. I quote Politico here: (https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/21/house-capitol-riots-lawmakers-stood-their-ground-460965 ) “Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), one of the dozens of lawmakers inside the House chamber, first leapt into action, helping an officer barricade the door on the House floor that leads to Statuary Hall. Texas freshman Reps. Troy Nehls, Tony Gonzales, Pat Fallon and Ronny Jackson, a Navy veteran, also soon joined Mullin in preparing to defend the chamber.”
I disagree with Mullin on most, perhaps all, issues of substance, but I do believe in giving the devil his due. I applaud his “intestinal fortitude” in standing tall to resist the rioters that day.
Well, your first two points are very well taken – perhaps we can call it a tie? There is room for debate on that one, for sure. Nice job.
