Saturday is the funeral for Pope Francis in Rome and Donald Trump announces that he and Melania will be in attendance. I’m sure she welcomes that announcement like you or I would welcome a diagnosis of herpes. First, she’s got to be stuck on an airplane with him (thank heavens Air Force One is so spacious) and then she’s got to pretend to being able to stand him while the photographers are present. Personally, I’m wondering what kind of eye catching get up Melania will wear. Black is what people wear to funerals but Melania won’t stand out in a sea of black and stand out she must, so what will she wear? Purple? Brown? Grey, as she wore for Rosalynn Carter’s memorial? Why not go hog wild and wear psychedelic chartreuse?

And Melania making a spectacle of herself is the least of Donald’s worries. He’s got to figure out how to explain to the Italian press the behavior of Nancy Mace, who would not allow a moment of silence for the late pontiff at her town hall; RWNJ Gina Loudon expressing her opinion that the Pope went to Hell; and Marge Greene’s sick message that “evil is being defeated” upon learning of the late religious leader’s demise.

Do not expect the Italians to ignore this level of disrespect bordering on depravity. All of these people are MAGA. “Dr.” Loudon, in particular, is the mother of Bo Loudon, who is reportedly Barron Trump’s best friend. One would think that if that kind of a familial relationship exists, then it would have been the better part of valor for Loudon to keep her mouth shut about Pope Francis, but no, she had to jump right in and take center stage.

Following the pope’s death on Monday, Real America’s Voice brought in former Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-NY) to comment on the future of the Catholic church.

“Well, I very much appreciated Dr. Gina’s comments about what seemed to me to be a troublingly political bent on behalf of Pope Francis, whose passage obviously is a sad event for the Catholic Church, and no doubt he reposes in the arms of the Lord,” Hayworth opined. “But he was a confirmed leftist, basically, at least by the likes of lots of folks, including me.”

Loudon, however, disagreed that God had allowed Francis to enter Heaven.

“Dr. Hayworth, you know, I don’t know if I’ve ever disagreed with you in the long, long time we’ve been in television together, but I don’t know that I am so sure about where the Pope is today,” the host said. “I don’t know that holding a title necessarily ushers you into the arms of Jesus.”

“I think that babies died. Christians were slaughtered across the world,” she added. “And if you’re not in line with biblical teaching, I don’t know where you land with God in the end. I really don’t know. I think the number is few.

“Dr.” Loudon, of course, being a consummate liar, is clearly out of line with Biblical teaching, but maybe she’ll repent at the very end. I personally wouldn’t hold my breath. And the actions of Mace and Greene are likewise egregious and they are both hard core MAGA cult members.

The simple matter remains: Pope Francis was a major world religious figure. Whether you are a Catholic or a non-Catholic is immaterial. It is incumbent on decent people everywhere to note the passing of a religious leader in a respectful manner. MAGA has openly disrespected the late Pope, who is beyond where he can defend himself. This is tacky on steroids.

And mark my words, Trump will be asked about it. And he can complain “fake news” all that he wants to, all of these news stories have gone around the world. They did the day they broke, they were so egregious and so embarrassing.

MAGA Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared to mock Pope Francis’s death on Monday, calling him “evil.”

“Today there were major shifts in global leaderships,” Taylor Greene wrote on X, alluding to the death of one of the world’s most influential religious leaders without naming him directly. “Evil is being defeated by the hand of God.”

She did not issue any clarification after coming under fire for the post.

This is par for the course for a far-right congresswoman who has expressed that she thinks Catholic bishops are “destroying” the country and that the Catholic Church as a whole is “controlled by Satan.”

American conservatives have maintained a fraught relationship with Pope Francis, as the first Latin American pope was often critical of the Trump administration and its policies.

Mark Saturday on your calendar. Expect some kind of an incident in Rome. Trump is an embarrassment to this country and if he tries to defend his MAGA followers’ horrific statements, it will only get worse. And you know that Trump doesn’t have enough class to admit any wrongdoing on the part of Mace, Greene, or Loudon, or to try to take the high road.

America has become the crazy uncle that you don’t really want to invite to a gathering but you do so for protocol’s sake. Let’s see who Trump manages to insult this weekend and how bad it gets. Oh, and don’t forget, Trump Junior got into a legal skirmish with Italian authorities over shooting down a bird of an endangered species, so the Trump name is mud on a lot of levels.

  1. 🤦‍♀️🤨 And, Trump on Truth Social couldn’t handle a human tone for the simplest thing.

“Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!”

It’s a funeral, dead brain! Melania doesn’t want to be there or travel with you! And it’s not Coachella…he didn’t die for your entertainment or for your ugly face to get more airtime!! 🤢🤮💩

  2. I hope they don’t allow him to speak. It would be a real mistake to interview him or ask him anything.
I would love it if they refused to even acknowledge him in any way.

  3. Far-right Catholics who talk like Anti-Catholics and calling others of their religion who do not agree with them “not real Catholics” or “self-hating Catholics” reminds me of far-right Jews who talk like antisemites and calling others of their religion who do not agree with them “not real Jews” and “self-hating Jews.”

  4. As you know I’m agnostic. However, I recall well what I was taught and learned when I was a person of faith. One of those things is that forgiveness by god can be given even to someone on their deathbed, that god has the ability to see into a person’s heart to see if there’s been a genuine change. That being said there IS a difference between a deathbed conversion, admitting fully to god and others all one’s wrongdoing, wishing to make amends and true contrition in asking for forgiveness – vs. a last second “I don’t want to go to hell so please forgive me” attitude!

I for one believe most of these despicable people who profess to be Christians blithely live lives spreading hatred and causing suffering because they believe at the end they can just admit they’ve “done wrong” and be granted forgiveness. Again, I don’t think it would work out that way given how I was taught for reasons I’ve always explained. It makes me think of my P.O.S. grandfather who truly believed in God and Christianity and was terrified of dying. He knew, and I mean KNEW the evil he’d done and helped/allowed others to do via the Klan. Even using his fucking badge (a high ranking cop in a decent sized Arkansas town before the Klan snuck the family out in the middle of the night which is a longer story. He then became a federal railroad cop so again was able to abuse his authority. He knew a couple of things. He’d done countless despicable things for which he deserved to burn in hell. He also knew he would have done it again if able. THAT is why he was afraid to die!

Grandpa believed what I’ve articulated. He never, ever made any attempt to atone for the wrong he’d done, or even admit it was wrong. He was PROUD of it. He knew deep inside that any last second admission as he died that he’d done so much wrong and asking forgiveness would be seen by God as a cynical roll of the dice, hoping to catch God at a busy time and rubber stamping admissions to heaven for those who’d made a late life repentance. So he believed he was headed to hell. If there is a heaven and hell I’m quite certain he’s in the latter, exactly as he believed would be the case.

My idea of heaven, which would keep me outside the actual gates (but at least not in hell) would be enjoying the screams of Nooooooooo! as St. Peter crotch-punted these faux Christians over the edge on their descent into hell. Now THAT would be entertainment! I also think the bulk of them are like me – they don’t actually believe in heaven and hell. Or God or their Jeebus. They sure as hell don’t make any effort to follow Jesus’ teachings. On the contrary. Hell, they make it a point to NOT follow what he taught.

  5. I love your imagined St Peter scenario.

I have one where the miscreant stands along side of St Peter, frantically trying to help Pete find their name in the book. St Pete slowly shakes his head and says “I’m sorry “. Then just pushes the red button…
