The Klown Kar Kaucus sometimes known as the House GOP once again today proved they aren’t serious about their “bigly” Impeachment of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. They never were. From the beginning it’s been nothing but a PR exercise. Perhaps because they feared the votes not only weren’t there but never would be to vote out Articles of Impeachment against President Biden they felt they had to impeach someone. Given their flogging of the immigration horse as head of DHS Mayorkas was a “target of opportunity.” As I said, it was never more than a PR stunt to please Trump/MAGA. A means of whipping up the base and raising money.  A piece from Maddow Blog lays out why this is a sick joke and a waste of so much time and effort.

First, keep in mind that the House voted out the Articles of Impeachment against Mayorkas two months ago!  If, as the GOP likes to scream and howl from the rooftops through megaphones Mayorkas is responsible for an “invasion” and thousands of deaths from smuggled in fentanyl you’d think there’d be some urgency into handing the matter over to the Senate. Now, if they wanted to hype things for a few days, even a week well, this is the House GOP and one would expect that of them. But two freaking months? I don’t know about you but common sense tells me they don’t seem to think it’s a crisis after all. Hence the lack of urgency.

However, we were told today would be the big day. The day the “walk” would take place where Speaker Johnson would, with a bunch of MAGA asshats right there with him (do I really need to list names?) with their precious “communication” in hand walk across the Capitol and hand it to the Senate. (Not that the Senate wants to deal with it) But the whole thing was called off. The Senate could have, wanting to get out of town at the end of the day tomorrow (those three day weekends DO matter to them) vote to either dismiss or table the matter. Unlike with a Presidential impeachment for other offices the Senate can get around to it whenever they feel like it. In this case maybe not at all? We’ll see.

The point is that the House crazies knew that either way it would be over. Instead of bringing the thunder the only noise they would make would be a tiny (yet smelly) fart.  A “toot” and that simply wouldn’t do. So now they are talking about maybe next week. THAT my friends confirms what as the linked articles says proves critics have been right all along. This whole business is nothing but a PR stunt:

House GOP leaders could’ve sent the matter to the Senate in February, and if Republicans genuinely believed this was an urgent concern, they likely would’ve done just that. Instead, they waited two months and planned to advance the process today.

But those plans were delayed — not for substantive reasons, but because the party is still trying to figure out how have the most fun with their toy.

I’ve already explained how the article lays out the original plan, and why today the House balked at handing the matter over to the Senate. Maddow Blog cites the WaPo in detailing the machinations, but goes on to add:

With this in mind, a group of far-right senators reached out to House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday, imploring the Louisiana Republican to push the matter to next week in order to give the party the best possible public-relations opportunities. Or as the Post’s report added, “[M]any Republicans want to draw out the impeachment process as long as possible and make it as painful as possible for Democrats facing re-election in red and purple states.”

No wonder recently retired GOP Representative Ken Buck of Colorado is blasting his fellow GOPers:

“We’ve taken impeachment, and we’ve made it a social media issue as opposed to a constitutional concept,” Buck declared. “This place keeps going downhill.”

The plain fact is that the House crazies who forced things to this point have know all along there was no chance of getting 67 Senators to convict on whatever lame-ass excuses for Articles of Impeachment they could come up with. Even some Republican Senators have expressed misgivings about the whole thing. Whether they actually cast a not guilty vote would be interesting to see, but I suspect a vote to either dismiss or table the damned mess will be bi-partisan. If the latter, to table it maybe even by a fairly substantial margin!

There is so much that has cried out for serious work to be done by this GOP controlled House. Instead we have this kind of performance jackassery. Don’t expect it to end anytime soon. But count on some of the craziest trying to distract everyone from both the newly flared up abortion fire that’s roasting the GOP and Trump’s criminal trial with “Mayorkas is a threat to national security and has to go!” type nonsense.

You know what I think? They WON’T be able to break through and get the attention they want. Another week will go by. And between more GOPers tripping over themselves on abortion and Trump trial coverage, as well as the war in Gaza and who knows what else it could be a long, long while before the House crazies decide the time is right. To force the Senate to “deal with the Mayorkas threat to national security.”

Stay tuned. (But don’t hold your breath!)

    • Maybe. If a few in the GOP have the guts to go along then yes. I think Democrats are more likely to get a number of them (perhaps ten or more) to go along with tabling it and there can be some claims of “bi-partisanship” which most Senators still love to hold out there. I’m quite certain all but a few Republican Senators are HORRIFIED at MTG as a “Manager”, standing in the well of their beloved Senate proverbially showing her ass and sh*tting all over the place and then flinging the turds like an angry monkey in a zoo. And that’s exactly what would happen. About the only good thing that might come of it is that while she’ll still be re-elected given the makeup of her district, the folks their might finally be embarrassed enough by her that a regular old hard core conservative with a bit of MAGA in them can beat her in a primary two years from now.

  1. Idiot Republicans missed their window. The Arizona Supreme Court just made sure that nobody on either side will give a s**t about the Mayorkas impeachment ever again.

  2. To GQP, it’s all a game & bad “acting” for the World to see! Amerika is one bigly FARCE but only the RW Fascist’s are laughing. It’s about to get very real for the RW who started this EVIL, MONSTROUS joke! Can’t wait!
