Hide Trump’s Ketchup! DC Democrats: “We’ve Turned Trump Tower Blue!”

Well, this is a delicious case of blending together irony, payback is a b!tch and in-your-face Trump! Remember how Trump was allowed, despite rules, laws and even the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution to keep his lease of the Old Post Office building in DC? Transform it into the Trump Hotel and turn it into a giant cash machine? It quickly became common knowledge that anyone or any group, and for that matter foreign dignitaries that wanted to get favor with Trump/the Trump administration had better book meeting spaces and rooms at his luxury hotel. At inflated prices of course. As for other places who saw contracts for GOP events in DC or inside the beltway broken, they knew it would cost them far more to sue than simply write off the lost income.

Well, even with all the money the place generated it had financial troubles. Just like a casino that has to put up with the Mob having it’s hooks in the place.  With the Mob taking an ever increasing cut of the action the owners/management wind up having trouble keeping things going. Since this was Trump’s place you know damn well he made sure HE was getting a special cut of the money that flowed into that place. And, as I said it wasn’t a secret to conservatives that by god they’d better use Trump’s Hotel whenever they could and many a foreign leader knew it too. If Democrats weren’t barred and kicked out, they were sure as hell unwelcome and they knew it. The whole place was a cesspool of Trump corruption.

With Trump out of office the struggling enterprise lost its “hook” for attracting people who had to pay a form of “Trump Tax” and only then was he all too happy to get out of his lease on the place. And as this article in Bezinga tells us Democrats have flipped the script on Trump:

In an unexpected twist, the hotel in downtown Washington, formerly known for its Trump branding, has emerged as the latest gathering spot for the Democratic elite.

Poor Donald. This is the kind of thing that will make him wake up from nightmares of seeing his name taken off of Trump Tower in NYC and the place becoming a hub of govt. office space and Democratic goings on. Or Mar A Lago taken over by some rich Democrat. Since the nearby Doral resort is a borderline dump with bed bugs he can expect to see that deloused and turned into a normal hotel that regular folks can use. Oh, the golf course which he tricked out into something the PGA didn’t want to use anymore can be reworked and turned into a PUBLIC course. For an asshole who thinks golf should be “aspirational” as in only well-to-do people should get to play it that would be particularly insulting.

But seeing his onetime cash cow he coerced Republicans and foreigners into using become the Democratic “hot spot?” That’s going to burn his fat orange butt. In addition to gatherings of high profile Democrats and committees (i.e. Biden’s Finance Committee) the bars which once catered to Trump supporters and of course had Fox News on all the TVs now cater to Democratic functions and even casual meet ups! The article goes on to note:

Statements from attendees such as “We’ve turned Trump Tower blue” capture the sentiment of taking over a space once dominated by Trump’s presence.

While the Waldorf Astoria was chosen for practical reasons due to its large meeting rooms, its selection for Democratic events is seen by many as a symbolic victory over Trump.

It’s not earth shattering stuff we’re talking about here. There are plenty of critical domestic and international issues we can and should be thinking about. Still, we all need a bit of a break and seeing something you KNOW will chap Trump’s butt is amusing. So I figured since it’s not exactly headline news I’d share it here. It’s Saturday evening. Pop open a beer, pour a glass of wine or in my case a couple of shots of Jack Daniels and drink a toast to Trump getting one-upped by Democrats. On a property HE once controlled.
