It’s still difficult to assess where Fox News stands on Ron DeSantis aka Meatball aka Donald Trump’s derogatory nickname du jour. I’m sure there will be many more as the days progress and $hit gets real. It’s going to be a wild six months until the first caucuses of January, 2024, and it’s going to go by fast, make no mistake about that.

One of the reasons it may be difficult to assess where Fox News stands is that they themselves may be making that decision and taking the temperature of the GOP and the population in general. Gone is the absolutism of “turning the page” on Trump and calling DeSantis “DeFuture,” now is the reality of thumping DeSantis for what he’s done wrong so far — and claiming that what he’s done right has been by sheer default.

Fox Business had a panel discussion today, claiming that a pro-growth, pro prosperity candidate would win. That’s pretty much of a no brainer. The conversation you can listen to, if you hit the blue link, makes a hero out of Donald Trump. Trump is the guy with the economic vision, we are told.

“I’m waiting for DeSantis to show me an economic prosperity agenda,” Kudlow said. “This is going to be a pocketbook election. This is going to be a kitchen table election. And the candidate who has a good, strong, pro-growth, pro-prosperity agenda is going to win.”

Kudlow chided DeSantis over his vendetta against Disney – one of Florida’s largest employers – after the company opposed legislation he signed into law last year.

“It is all about attacking a company in his state named Disney,” he continued. “He won’t let up. Conservative free market people don’t attack businesses. They do promote jobs and businesses. He hasn’t done that.”

“Everything about Florida that you love – Desantis inherited,” Simone said. “The no state tax, all that stuff. He’s done a great job of running it. But most of that was inherited. You watch DeSantis turn Disney into World War III. Imagine what he would do with Putin. This guy has got problems. He’d be great in 2028. Wait ’til then.”

Maybe that’s Fox News’ take right there, wait until 2028. But then they go on to tout what poor people skills DeSantis has and I’m not sure that’s something you learn. Not at his age, in any event. If this was a 12-year-old we were talking about, I would hold out greater hope.

At this point, nobody knows what’s going to happen. All that is known about DeSantis at this point is that he will announce his candidacy on Twitter on May 25. He’s already getting hit for that decision. His detractors are saying that he’s announcing that way so that he doesn’t have to have a press conference and have to deal with reaction or interact with people. That could be. But that is not a winning formula going forward.

  1. The idiocy of the Republicans is SO massive it makes a good-hearted person turn off the TV when the cow pies begin to fly …

There is NO PLACE to hide, the Republican’s latest GOP stance is VERY much a chaos of fake House groups and their micro-mind attacks on Biden and Democrats in general, one example of a hugely stupid action committee, one lead by nonother then Gym Jordan himself, under the incredible attacks personally during his show-time stunts, he continues to spew non-sense and generally entertaining drivable actions, if the idiot was not so stupid AND at the same time dangerous …

People like Jordon should be removed from OUR House, holding our Country in the grips of yet another threat scheme to install the Republican’s wet dream of total control of most everything, while we may be thrown under the bus of lost dreams, cuts to our retirement income, impossible health care expenses, changing the wording on their proposed cuts to EVERY law enforcement agency in the Country, by changing one word in a sentence to say, “LOCAL POLICE”, only, such fine people that screw all of us over with a smile, while our country will default in the biggest crash, EVER …

Such knumb-skulls, prove, once again, the majority of the GOP is saturated with the walking dead-from-the neck-ups …

    • It’s gotten beyond a culture war. Politics in this country has turned into a free for all. The reason for that is that there is no leadership and no messaging in the GOP. They’re just trying to keep the emotional temperature turned up high so they can control people by fear, not lead them.
