This is a beautiful takedown. As takedowns go, this is a work of art. We just saw today how Pete Hegseth sounded like a child during a cabinet meeting with Trump, where he laid the fault for all his problems at the feet of the press. That is not a leader in any walk of life, but particularly not in the military. Mark Kelly is both a leader and a military man and he rips Hegseth to shreds here. God, this is good.

Our allies are looking at this and rolling their eyes and our enemies are laughing at us — just as Madeleine Dean said to Mike Johnson in the House chambers last month. That’s exactly what’s going on.

Hegseth has made himself look bad, he’s made the U.S. look terrible, but when will Donald Trump make the decision that Hegseth has made him look bad? Because that’s the only opinion that matters, and then Hegseth will be toast.

You see two things here: First, this is serious as a heart attack. The facts and the law are totally against Hegseth. Second, Hegseth offers no defense. His best defense is that the reporters at the Washington Post are sitting in air conditioned offices and they don’t know the value of “the fog of war.”

It’s the fog in your brain, Pete, that is the problem. Not some mythical fog of war. Or, as one user on Twitter put it, “Is the fog of war in the room with you now?”
